Prince Of Boom wins Doomben trial for Rob Heathcote
While Rothfire got most of the attention at the Doomben trials on Tuesday morning, a younger stablemate trying to follow in his footsteps showcased his own spring aspirations.
Newly-turned three-year-old Prince Of Boom is being set for the same Sydney spring races as Rothfire raced in last year, the Group 2 Run To The Rose and the Group 1 Golden Rose.
Rothfire brained his opposition in the Run To The Rose before being seriously injured when $1.55 favourite in the Golden Rose.
Prince Of Boom has a long way to go to live up to the deeds of his Group 1-winning stablemate but trainer Rob Heathcote feels he is untapped.

In the space of one preparation, Prince Of Boom won a Sunshine Coast maiden and then became a Group 2 winner just six days later when surging to a dominant victory in the Spirit Of Boom Classic (Champagne Classic) at Doomben during the winter carnival.
He was then trapped wide when finishing 12th and more than five lengths from winner Tiger Of Malay in the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.
Heathcote was delighted watching Prince Of Boom easily account for his opposition in an 840m Doomben barrier trial.
“Comparing him to Rothfire is difficult because this guy is a bit untapped, he has only had one prep,”
“He won a maiden at Caloundra and six days later he wins a Group 2, then two weeks later he is caught four-deep in a million-dollar race.
“I think Prince Of Boom gave cover to a few others in that race.
“He is a blank page and I don’t know where his ceiling is. He is pretty exciting.”

Unlike Rothfire, who will make his racing comeback in Sydney, Prince Of Boom will resume in his Brisbane home town.
With just three career starts, Heathcote is daring to dream his promising gelding can match it with the big guns when he gets to Sydney.
“They are pretty lofty aspirations I have set for him – The Run To The Rose, the Golden Rose,” Heathcote said.
“We will kick him off with a nice race in Brisbane in four weeks time, a three-year-old set weights and penalties race.
“He will carry 59kg in that race and I assume he would be the only Group 2 winner in it.
“He doesn’t necessarily have to win that race to go down south but I am pretty sure we are going to get a very good performance.”
No jockey has yet been booked for Prince Of Boom’s racing return in Brisbane.
