Jockey Jamie Kah brings up 50 Melbourne wins on General Beau in Blue Diamond Preview
Jockey Jamie Kah might have booked herself a Blue Diamond Stakes ride after General Beau became her 50th Melbourne winner of the season at Caulfield.
Kah steered the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained General Beau ($3.80) to win the colts and geldings’ division of the Blue Diamond Preview by a half-length over the $6 chance Extreme Warrior.
However, General Beau is not nominated for next month’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Ellerton said he and Zahra would consult with General Beau’s owners before deciding whether to pay a $55,000 late entry fee for the Blue Diamond.
Ellerton said a decision was likely to be made after General Beau runs in the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield on Saturday week.
“That’s a conversation we’ll have to have but hopefully get through a prelude with him.” Ellerton said.
Kah said she would recommend General Beau’s connections target the $1.5 million Blue Diamond Stakes on February 20.
“I’ll be happy to stay on for the ride,” Kah said.
“He’s only going to get better as he gets further and it’s up to them. I’d be pushing in that direction.”

Kah took 256 rides to reach 50 wins for the season, notching a win every 5.1 rides, leaving her 15 wins clear of Damien Oliver and Damian Lane after General Beau’s success.
Kah said General Beau’s trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra have played a big part in her success during the 2020/21 season.

“Things are going well and thanks to the team at Ellerton/Zahra for giving me some nice horses lately, including him (General Beau),” she said.
While Kah landed the prize in the colts and geldings’ division, she was unable to repeat the effort in the fillies’ Blue Diamond Preview when third behind Dosh on the $1.65 favourite Frost Flowers.
But the irrepressible Kah bounced back in the next race with a win on the $2.30 favourite La Mexicana in The Mary Bell (1100m).
