Jockey Jag Guthmann-Chester held at knifepoint and has car stolen

Jockey Jag Guthmann-Chester has told the harrowing story of how he was held at knifepoint and had his Mercedes-Benz stolen on his way to trackwork at the Gold Coast on Thursday morning.

The promising jockey was left shaken by the ordeal but luckily escaped without injury, leaving him thankful to be able to tell the tale.

Police are still on the hunt for his white Mercedes-Benz coupe which has “JAGGC” personalised plates.

“I was on my way to trackwork at 3:30 this morning and I stepped into Main Beach to get a coffee,” he said.

“I went to the 7 Eleven on Main Beach Parade to get it and then I went to Narrowneck Beach on the eastern side of the esplanade to drink it, I was only there for five minutes having a scroll on my phone.

“My car was still running and there was no one around at all and then out of nowhere I noticed a guy in a tracksuit set with his face covered on the footpath near my car.

“I wound my window up and thought the car was locked and before I had time to think he punched the drivers window and made this huge crack.

“That was when I realised what was going on and I’m looking at the male who is in my drivers window, I tried to put my car in drive to drive off quickly but before I had time to do it, the door was opened and he leant in the car and had a knife pointed at me.”

The 22-year-old, who booted home a double at Doomben on Saturday, was left without his phone and wallet which was left behind in the car following the ordeal.

“I saw a car about 100m down parked with its lights on so I thought ‘how good is this, there is someone who can help me,’” he said.

“As I approached it a man jumped out of that car with a suspicious look as well and walked towards me.

“I kept my distance and then he yelled out saying ‘what do you want mate?’ and I said everything that just happened and he replied saying ‘do you have a mobile phone on you?’ I said no because it’s in the car so he kept saying ‘well keep f***ing running c***’”

The brazen thieves are unlikely to get far with the car however with Guthmann-Chester saying he had the car key in his back pocket the whole time.

While they were able to drive off, they will be unable to start the car again without it.

Mercedes-Benz is also assisting police in tracking the vehicle.

Guthmann-Chester says he will continue with his riding commitments at Ipswich on Friday along with the Gold Coast on Saturday.
