Jamaea chasing the Golden Slipper in the Sweet Embrace
NSW South Coast trainers Rob and Luke Price are chasing the Golden Slipper dream on Saturday with their exciting filly Jamaea.
The daughter of Headwater produced a barnstorming performance that caught the attention of many when a flashing second in the Listed Lohnro Plate (1000m) at her second start.
That performance followed a debut win on her home track at Kembla.
Luke Price, the son of his training partner Rob, is struggling to keep his excitement in check leading into Saturday’s Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) which carries Golden Slipper ballot exemption for the winner.

“She could be the best horse I’ve had,” Price said. “I haven’t been this excited going into a race for a long time.
“I love that each time she has gone to the races, she’s come home and her work has got even better.
“What she has been doing on the track in the last 10 days has got me pretty pumped up.”
Jamaea is the third foal of former classy Tasmanian sprinter Isibaeva, an 11 time winner from 39 starts during her career in the Apple Isle.
The Headwater filly cost $130,000 as a yearling at the Magic Millions last year and since the start has shown the stable good ability.

“We’ve always had an opinion of her and she just continues to please,” Luke Price said. “We gallop her against older horses and she just does it with ease.
“She’s got a fair bit of feist about her but when you go to the races she’s a real little pro.
“She just impresses with everything she does.
“She’s exciting but she’s still got to step up and there’s a few good ones there on Saturday but I’m not afraid of them.”
Bookmakers have Jamaea listed as a $17 chance on Saturday and as much as $101 is available for the filly in Golden Slipper all-in markets.

“The dream is to make the Slipper but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if she didn’t,” Price said. “There’s plenty of other races about.”
Price mentioned the $500,000 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) on the second day of The Championships at Randwick is another possible target.
