Inglis Millennium 2021: Joe Pride’s unbeaten filly Paper Daisy continues to impress
Joseph Pride loved unbeaten filly Paper Daisy the moment he saw her at the sales and she’s impressed him every day since.
The daughter of Press Statement caught Pride’s eye at the 2020 Inglis Classic Sale and landed in Pride’s Warwick Farm yard after going under the hammer to Laurel Oak for $145,000.
“It‘s easy to say now but I loved her at the sales,” Pride said.
“She was my favourite horse of the ones we got.

“I don’t like my fillies to be short and she is a lovely leggy filly.
“She is a lovely filly and is very uncomplicated which is not unusual but not the norm for fillies to be as chilled out as she is.”
Her chilled out nature has helped put Paper Daisy in a position to pay back her yearling purchase price and then some in quick time as she prepares to line up in Saturday’s $2 million Inglis Millennium at Randwick.
TAB.com.au rate her a $23 chance to claim the lucrative 1200m feature.
Paper Daisy sealed her place in the Millennium field after proving too good for the older horses in a 1000m maiden at Kembla Grange last month.
Pride had given his promising youngster two trials in preparation for her debut and she did her best work late to score by 1½-lengths.
“I like what she has done so far,” Pride said. “Both her trials were good and I thought she was excellent on debut when she beat the older horses down at Kembla Grange.
“For a horse having her first start, I was impressed with what she did and she has a lovely action. This is obviously harder but I think she will run well.”
Pride felt the bookies had it right and Profiteer was the clear horse to beat from the draw but was hopeful there would be good pressure on up front to help his filly finish over the top of them. Sam Clipperton will take the ride on Paper Daisy on Saturday.
