Horse racing tips, best bets for Doomben, Rosehill, Flemington and Morphettville

Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner in the major races this weekend.

Last week … Five winners. Clinton Payne delivered again with his best bet Avion Fury ($3.90) and Glenn McFarlane had little to worry about with his top selection Excelman ($2.20), while Nathan Exelby bagged the Hollindale quinella (Zaaki and Fifty Stars). Mitch Cohen found Brandenburg ($8.50) and Nick Quinn won on the money with I Could Do Better ($4.20) with their value tips.

Saturday: ROSEHILL (9 races, start 11.30am), DOOMBEN (9 races, 11.38am), FLEMINGTON (9 races, 11.45am), MORPHETTVILLE (9 races, 11.56am), ASCOT (9 races, 1.54pm).

DOOMBEN

NATHAN EXELBY (Sky Racing). Form: 11151

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 12448

EDUARDO (Race 7, No.2 — $2.00)

Eduardo is arguably the best sprinter in the country, and he should win Saturday’s Doomben 10,000. He has had three starts in 2021 winning the Challenge Stakes and the Group 1 Galaxy before losing no admirers when third in the T.J Smith Stakes behind runaway winner Nature Strip.

Value bet: GRAND PROMENADE (Flemington Race 6, No.2 — $6)

ROSEHILL

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 12542

PRIME STAR (Race 5, No.1 — $2.90)

He’s so many rating points ahead of the rest and runs against them at set weights. So it’s hard to see them beating him if he’s at his best and he trialled up to show that he will be.

Value bet: OUR BELLAGIO MISS (Race 8, No.15 — $23)

CLINTON PAYNE (Racenet) Form: 54211

MIGHTYBEEL (Race 3, No.17 — $9.50)

Comes out of what will prove a strong midweek race, it will measure up to Saturday level, and he’s set to peak here with no weight and a favourable draw. Great value in early markets.

Value bet: OUR BELLAGIO MISS (Race 8, No.15 – $23)

FLEMINGTON

GILBERT GARDINER (Herald Sun). Form: 1252x

PERSAN (Race 6, No.3 — $4.60)

One of three Ciaron Maher and David Eustace runners in contention for the Melbourne Cup golden ticket. If you forget his last start flop then Persan wins by a length or three.

Value bet: ANOTHER DOLLAR (Race 4, No.2 — $6)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (NewsRacing) Form: 3×728

CORDILLA (Race 5, No. 3 – $3.20)

A moderate tempo here and back to 1200m will be more to her liking where she can display her finishing acceleration.

Value bet: MOHICAN HEIGHTS (Race 6, No. 4 – $9)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun) Form: 81621

EDUARDO (Doomben Race 7, No.2 — $2.00)

Consistent sprinter in outstanding form and could quite easily start odds on here, so get in early.

Value bet: REALM OF FLOWERS (Race 6, No.6— $3.90)

HavMORPHETTVILLE

JETT HATTON (Racenet) Form: 45442

RUBISAKI (Race 4, No.1 – $2.60)

She’s back to her best and that was on show when flying to finish third in the TAB Classic. Goes to another level in wet ground and has a class edge on these.

Value bet: KEMALPASA (Race 8, No.3 – $10)
