High class nominations for South Australian Group 1 races
A host of high-class fillies and mares have been entered for two of South Australia’s biggest Group 1 races – the TAB Classic (1200m) and the Australasian Oaks (2000m).
The two $500,000 features will be run at Morphettville on Saturday, May 1.
The TAB Classic, registered as the Robert Sangster Stakes, received 33 nominations with some of the nation’s best sprinting mares among the entries.
The famous Cummings name features alongside some of the leading contenders with Anthony Cummings entering the multiple Group 1 placegetters Mizzy and last year’s The Everest runner Libertini.

Son James, Godolphin’s private head-trainer has nominated Group 1 winner Flit and Athiri while Anthony and Sam Freedman have entered another Godolphin Group 1 winner Lyre and Group 2 winner Prophet’s Thumb.
Leading the charge for the locals is powerhouse stable Tony and Calvin McEvoy who have nominated proven Stakes performers Sisstar, the sister to three-time Group 1 winner Sunlight, and Pretty Brazen.
Other entries include Group 1 performers Instant Celebrity from the Phillip Stokes team, Dame Giselle, Brooklyn Hustle, Chris Waller’s smart mare Subpoenaed and recent Adelaide Stakes winners Mileva, Muntaseera and Night Raid.
Meanwhile, 41 three-year-old fillies have been entered for the 2000 metre South Australian classic – the Australasian Oaks.

Last year’s winning trainer Chris Waller holds a strong hand with two entries – The Championships classy Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes winner Kiku and Brookspire.
Group 1 VRC Oaks winner Personal leads the charge for top Victorian conditioners Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes along with the Tasmanian Oaks winning stablemate Chequerboard.
Group 3 Auraria Stakes winner Tyche Goddess, last Saturday’s VOBIS Sires’ Guineas winner Ripper Rita and the highly regarded Northern Hemisphere-bred daughter of Frankel Steinem are also entered, as is New Zealand Oaks placegetter Llanacord and Adrian Knox Stakes placegetter Flexible for Godolphin.
