One punter has missed out on a possible £1 million from a stake of just £5 at the Cheltenham Festival.
A betslip shared by the Sun shows details of a seven-race punt with the potential to land £1,151,851.74, with the first five races already won.
The full total is off now, though, as Shishkin could only manage second in the County Plate Chase.
The horse initially looked as though it had timed it’s run well but failed to recover after a mistake at the 15th fence.
Despite this setback, the punter could still be on for an impressive win of up to £200,000 if Galopin Des Champs, who is down as, 7/4 favourite, wins the Gold Cup on Friday.
A betslip has been shared that appears to show a £1 million return on just a £5 stake, but Thursday’s result for Shishkin has drastically lowered the potential winnings
Six of the seven races had already come in, but the punter will need Galopin Des Champs to win Friday’s Gold Cup
Until Thursday, it was a remarkable set of results for the punter. The first win came on day one, as Rachael Blackmore won an emotional race on Honeysuckle in the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle.
There was then a dramatic victory for Gaillard Du Mesnil, as Mahler Mission fell from a winning position to give the race away in the National Hunt Chase.
Langer Dan then won the Coral Cup on Wednesday, before wins from Energumene and Delta Work made it five from five.
One punter who had more luck is Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom, whose bet on Wednesday that earned him one of the biggest wins in Cheltenham history.
One leg of the accumulator was Rachael Blackmore’s emotional win on Honeysuckle
Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom has already picked up one of the biggest wins in Cheltenham history
Bloom left the course more than £1m better off after his Willie Mullins-trained gelding Energumene landed the Queen Mother Champion Chase for the second year running.
Just over £225,000 of that was the first prize Paul Townend’s mount earned for beating Captain Guinness 10 lengths.
Initially Bloom, an acclaimed gambler behind sports data specialists Starlizard, admitted he’d ‘had a few quid’ on his horse.
He later revealed placing two bets which together totalled £600,000 with Brighton-based bookmaker Star Sport, winning him £830,000.
