2.30 NORFOLK STAKES
SECOND WIND is unbeaten in two runs and is taken to strike for William Haggas and Tom Marquand.
A debut victory at Yarmouth was followed by a cosy success at Salisbury when he gave weight to a promising field – no mean feat for a young horse. The runner-up has won since.
He looks speedy and mature enough to play a big part at the business end.
Ballydoyle bairn Cadamosto, a relatively “cheap” £130,000 purchase, is strongly fancied after an easy Dundalk debut success, while Go Bears Go impressed many with his winning
debut at the track.
NAVELLO stands out as the each-way play. He fluffed his lines in the National Stakes after impressive wins at Brighton and Chester but trainer George Boughey blamed the soft ground. He holds strong appeal at 16-1.
Win: SECOND WIND
Each-way: Navello
3.05 HAMPTON COURT STAKES
IT IS hard to get away from MOHAAFETH , who was all set to run in the Derby but was pulled out on the day due to the soft ground.
If the overnight rain is not too severe, conditions should be perfect for a horse who wowed pundits in the way he cantered to victory at Newmarket’s May meeting.
This race is not as deep as most this week and it would be no surprise to see Derby sixth One Ruler bounce back to winning form.
Movin Time is probably the least exposed after an impressive maiden victory at Headquarters over Kemari.
ROMAN EMPIRE was fourth in the Dante under an aggressive Hollie Doyle ride and should run into a place at a reasonable price.
Win: MOHAAFETH
Each-way: Roman Empire
3.40 RIBBLESDALE STAKES
NOON STAR did everything wrong in the Musidora and sidestepped the Oaks in favour of this race.
At York she was far too keen and hung badly but still got within a few lengths of Snowfall.
Sir Michael Stoute rarely gets things wrong and she is fancied to do the business.
The form of her Wetherby victory in April has worked out remarkably well.
In fact the filly she beat there, LOVING DREAM , is the each-way play at 25-1, which looks far too big for a John Gosden filly. He has won three of the last four runnings.
Win: NOON STAR
Each-way: Loving Dream
4.15 GOLD CUP
HISTORY beckons for super stayer STRADIVARIUS (4.15) in the Gold Cup at Ascot.
He can become only the second horse in the race’s 214-year history to win it a remarkable four times.
Stradivarius is a warm favourite but he is simply unopposable. The threat of thunderstorms has worried John Gosden but the ground was testing last year – and he won by 10 lengths.
He should equal the record of the mighty Yeats, who won it from 2006 to 2009.
Trueshan and Hollie Doyle will provide stern opposition, especially if the rain gets into the ground. And despite a late training hiccup, Mark Johnston is bullish about Dubai Gold Cup hero Subjectivist.
Spanish Mission could be the each-way play at 10-1. He won the Doncaster Cup over 2m2f going away, although he may find himself chasing home one of the best stayers we have ever seen.
Win: STRADIVARIUS
Each-Way: Spanish Mission
5.00 BRITANNIA STAKES
SUMMA PETO has bolted up in two runs this season and is tipped to plunder the prize for the north.
A six-length maiden victory at Ayr was followed by him making a mockery of his handicap mark to win a decent little race at Wolverhampton with plenty in hand.
A 9lb rise gets him into this competitive heat and if Joe Fanning can switch him off and ride his luck, he looks a solid bet at 22-1.
Air To Air and Mithras will have their supporters towards the head of the market, but this is a mouth-watering betting heat with so much each-way value.
SIAM FOX is in great heart and could outrun his odds to pinch a place.
Win: SUMMA PETO
Each-way: Siam Fox
5.35 KING GEORGE V HANDICAP
Another conundrum and preference is for the progressive SUREFIRE .
Ralph Beckett’s colt chased home the reopposing Siskany at Windsor and is now 8lb better off.
But he has since stepped up to win a 1m2f Leicester handicap in convincing style, hitting the line strongly to suggest this longer trip will bring out more improvement.
Mark Johnston has won this race six times and the overpriced SOAPY STEVENS (16-1) could share a spot on the podium.
Win: SUREFIRE
Each-way: Soapy Stevens
6.10 BUCKINGHAM PALACE
HANDICAP
BOARDMAN is on a roll and I see no reason why his winning run should stop.
Victories at Haydock, York and Chester have seen his handicap mark go up by 21lb but he had plenty in hand on his latest start.
Overnight showers will aid his cause further but he has won on any ground.
PERSUASION is lightly raced and looks to have been laid out for this race and he is fancied to place at a double-digit price.
WIN: BOARDMAN
Each-way: Persuasion
