Frankie Dettori has lost one of his best chances of securing a Classic win in his final season before retiring with the news that leading 1,000 Guineas hope Commissioning has suffered a career-ending injury.
The unbeaten John and Thady Gosden-trained filly made a big impression on her successful racecourse debut for at Newmarket’s July Course last summer before going on to win Newmarket’s Rockfel Stakes and then the Group One success in the Fillies’ Mile in October.
Hopes were high Commissing could deliver a fifth 1,000 Guineas win for Dettori but she has now been retired to stud.
Jake Warren, racing and bloodstock advisor to Commissioning’s owners Isa Salman and Abdulla Al Khalifa, said: ‘Commissioning sustained an injury to her left hind fetlock which has unfortunately proven to be significant and thus she won’t be able to continue to be trained.

‘It’s very frustrating news but she has given the owners and breeders an amazing thrill by becoming the first Bahraini homebred Group One winner.
