Dryden hopes to lead Canberra charge at Wagga Wagga meeting
Just five days out from their club’s biggest meeting of the year – Group 3 Black Opal Stakes day – Canberra stables are rubbing their hands at the prospect of tuning up at Tuesday’s feature Wagga Wagga meeting.
On the Riverside track which has managed to avoid most of the Big Wet savaging NSW, another heat of the popular Benchmark 58 Wagga Stayers Series highlights the card, and it’s one of several spoils that could be heading back to the national capital.

Veteran trainer Keith Dryden is shooting for a third straight win with his promising Sebring filly In De Summertime who has returned a different horse after being sidelined for more than nine months.
She surged home first-up at Moruya to claim her maiden before repeating that dose from further back over a mile in a handy CL1 at Goulburn.
A further 200m on a long stretch home looks ideal for In De Summertime, with Brodie Loy getting his first chance in the saddle.
The Dryden camp will also look to ice the card with improving filly Ella Amelia in a modest Maiden over 1215m for the girls.
She failed to run on resuming on the course proper nearly a month ago, but that was her first run in more than seven months, and she’s fitter now over a more suitable journey.
Rival Canberra trainer Matthew Dale is also eyeing off a slice of the action.
Well-bred three-year-old Deepmind will be fancied in a Maiden Plate (1215m) for the boys, just 17 days after placing at this track on debut as a $2.30 favourite.
The stable then has emerging four-year-old Hombre Grande tackling a Maiden Hcp over 1665m before punters get their first look at Foxwedge filly Espadrille debuting in winkers off a very quiet trial in the final race.
But one provincial stable is threatening to steal the headlines.
Kembla-based trainer Theresa Bateup saddles up one of her strongest teams in the Riverina.
Among her better fancies are eight-year-old Halliday Road second-up in a BM 58 over 1065m, debutant two-year-old Vain Invader in the Maiden Plate for the boys, equal top-weight Densaur fifth-up in a Maiden Hcp (1665m), honest five-year-old Foxtrot Bravo in that Stayers Series Heat, and finally four-year-old mare Luckyimwithaimee on debut in the final race.
