Doyle looks to have timing right with Impulse Control
Sometimes placing horses is all about getting the timing right and Nathan Doyle might have struck the right time to bring in-form mare Impulse Control to town at Canterbury today.
The four-year-old has won three of her 11 starts, including her past two, and given the prowess she’s showing on wet tracks there’s every chance she can take the class rise in her stride.

That bodes very well for the TAB Handicap (1200m) at Canterbury where she will be faced with heavy ground in the Benchmark 72 event.
Impulse Control has raced four times on heavy tracks for two wins and a third and one of those was two starts ago at Port Macquarie where she revelled in the going to win by almost two lengths.
She backed that up with an all-the-way win at provincial grade on a soft 7 at Newcastle, so it’s a natural progression for Doyle to try her in metro company at midweek level, especially in conditions she seems to appreciate.
Apprentice Madi Derrick, who has been on board in her recent wins, retains the ride and reduces the mare’s weight to 55.5kg in a race where it appears she will be able to get a level of control up on the speed.
A heavy track also won’t bother Annabel Neasham’s up-and-comer Forever You it would seem as she also faces the step to city grade in the Be A Mate, Nominate Handicap (1900m).
She’s been commanding in two wins since stepping up to a middle distance, scoring by almost three lengths on a heavy 8 at Kembla Grange then by over four lengths at Newcastle on a Soft 7.
The fact it’s been almost a month between runs shouldn’t be an issue for the four-year-old given the drop in distance from her win over 2350m last start and the heavy ground will make it more of a staying test anyway.
Jockey Brodie Loy is protecting an unbeaten record on Forever You as he’s been the pilot for her two career wins and clearly knows her well, which will come in handy as she’s drawn the outside alley.
