Darwin racing: Palmerston Sprint day preview at Fannie Bay
Race 1
Surprise last start winner Fort Knox gets out to his pet trip here (six wins from nine starts at the track and distance) and we have seen him dominate races from the front here over the mile albeit against easier opposition.
Miroku has been racing well since joining the Jason Manning stable in the Top End, he looks the logical danger.
The consistent Captain Hedderwick and Rikibobby also have claims.
Tips: 5 – 2 – 6
Race 2
Plenty of speed engaged and a hard race to assess.
Banking on them overdoing it at the top and Brimarvi Rooboy getting the right run through and cutting the corner.
Provided double figures are on offer an each-way bet is suggested.
Recording To Win closed off nicely first-up in the Rosebowl behind Exact Replica and you can expect further natural improvement.
This mare is another one that will be suited by a fast tempo.
The Mont can win again but will need to find the front and you would want each-way odds about him.
Tips: 1 – 9 – 6
Race 3
Mini Boom wasn’t disgraced when she tasted defeat for the first time at Fannie Bay last start where Our Luca applied pressure throughout.
Prepared to give her another chance if we see $3.50 or better.
The Neil Dyer-trained Bolek is the value runner, can position close and be strong late with a predicted economical run in transit.
Good Therapy should enjoy dropping back in grade from a below par effort in the ROANT Cup, he is better than that and gets a chance to atone.
Tips: 8 – 6 – 1
Race 4
Expect improvement from the Phil Cole-trained Kick It Baby who should lob into a better position than her Darwin debut a week ago when well supported.
The blinkers go on to spark her up early.
Deep Seeded can earn some of the minor spoils from the advantageous rails draw.
Mon Louis will be in the placings.
Tips: 7 – 1 – 2
Race 5
Little Town Blues was slow into stride and simply spent to many petrol tickets to find the front last Saturday when Global Wonder ran over him late.
Jason Maskiell takes the reins on Saturday.
Provided he steps cleanly and can utilise his mid-race burn he is clearly the one to beat.
Mister Monaro and La Trioli will make their presence felt.
Tips: 1 – 7 – 2
Race 6
Plenty of speed here with maiden galloper Aradhana likely to hold out Beermint, Familja and The Amazing Thalia and from the rails.
This can set the race up for something just off the anticipated hot speed — maps suggest Power Rush is the one and he is the top selection at an each-way quote.
The Tayarn Halter-trained Hattan Man looks to be getting back to near his best and can run on into the placings.
Tips: 8 – 7 – 2
Race 7
The only thing missing from the Territory’s sprint star The Captain’s CV is a major sprint win in the Top End and he will get his chance in the $135,000 Palmerston Sprint.
Drawn perfectly in gate five with no speed drawn inside he will have no trouble finding the front early.
The pressure the Gary Clarke-trained eight-year-old has to endure mid-race will decide his fate as they don’t give you any cheap splits in a Palmerston Sprint.
If the chestnut can pinch a break on the turn as we have seen in his 14 wins at Fannie Bay he can hold them off late.
Mayameen, Our Luca and Niewand will push forward and ride their luck on the speed but look up against it if they can’t cross The Captain early.
The Stephen Brown-trained Alpha Sky and Pioneer Sprint winner Smuggling map to get the right run in transit and they must be respected.
Eastwood, who went so close to winning this race last year and Bolt I Am will be strong late and can play a part in the finish if the race is run to suit.
The emergency Snows Bro is worth including in multiples.
Tips: 1 – 8 – 9
Best Bet: Little Town Blues (Race 5 No.1)
Best Each-Way: Miroku (Race 1 No.2)
Best Roughie: Snows Bro (Race 7 No. 13)
