Danny Frawley’s namesake Captain Spud, a horse the late St Kilda champion part-owned, breakthroughs for a win at Sale
CAPTAIN Spud, a horse which the late St Kilda champion Danny Frawley part-owned, broke through for an emotion-charged win at Sale on Friday.
Frawley’s wife Anita and close friends make up the ownership of the aptly-named Peter Gelagotis-trained gelding, who dug deep in the straight to cling on for a hard-earned victory.
“He was a dear friend, sadly lost, and very much loved and missed by a lot of people,” Gelagotis told Racing.com in his mounting yard interview.
“We all looked up to Danny, and what an iconic person he was while he was walking this earth, a very credentialed gentlemen, I must say.”
Captain Spud has been a model of consistency since his debut last September, now with a win and three minor placings in five career starts.
Depending on how the Toronado gelding pulls up after the 1415m maiden, the Gelagotis camp will consider options in Adelaide or Sydney for the promising three year-old middle-distance galloper.
