Covid-19 scare forces crowd lockout at Tuesday’s Ballarat meeting
A minor Covid-19 scare was enough for owners and spectators to be shut out of Tuesday’s Ballarat Synthetic meeting.
Racing Victoria and the Ballarat Turf Club exercised “an abundance of caution” when locking out owners and punters after establishing a BTC staff member attended a Victorian Tier 1 exposure site.
RV and BTC advised the worker was at the exposure site some time after an infected person from NSW.
The BTC employee has shown no Covid symptoms but worked at the course on Sunday and Monday before undergoing testing on Tuesday.
The staff member will also isolate for 14 days.
Several other BTC staff have also been asked to isolate as a precaution as they await the results of their workmate’s Covid test.
The BTC racing operations areas underwent a deep clean before Tuesday’s meeting.
The public grandstand will also be deep cleaned as another precaution.
