Construct headlines stable’s Canonbury assault
Saturday‘s Group 3 Canonbury Stakes is something of a fact finding mission for Snowden Racing as the father-son team endeavour to discover just what they have in two colts that are ‘like chalk and cheese’.
The Randwick yard will launch a two-pronged attack at Rosehill when Group 3 Breeders’ Plate runner-up Construct is joined by unraced colt Bullpen in the 1100m two-year-old event.
Construct is the clear top pick of the two with the bookies and was an outright $3.20 favourite with TAB.com.au late on Thursday afternoon for the Golden Slipper lead up.
The talented son of I Am Invincible has already got some runs on the board after chasing home eventual Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Shaquero at his only start back in October.

He has impressed around the stable since then but co-trainer Paul Snowden is keen to see him back it up on the weekend before getting to far ahead of himself.
“He can do it all he wants at home and in his trials but he needs to do it on raceday,” Snowden, who trains with his dad Peter, said.
“Running him on Saturday, we will find out if he is good enough (for the bigger races).
“We ultimately don‘t know if he is a six furlong horse. He might be suited over further and I have an inkling that could be the case.
“Whether it is the Golden Slipper or a Sires, we will have to wait and see how he performs.”
The Snowdens plan to keep all options on the table for Construct for now and the colt is prominent in markets for the Blue Diamond ($34) and Golden Slipper ($26).

Bullpen is rated a $34 outsider with the bookies and has had two trials ahead of his debut which Snowden believes it should have him well prepared for his maiden assignment.
“Bullpen is a completely different horse,” Snowden said.
“He is a quick horse and will be on speed and make his own luck there and we will find out if he is good enough.
“They will be like chalk and cheese in the yard.
“One is a big strong horse that looks to have everything going for him and Bullpen is only small but he is strong.”
Tim Clark rides Bullpen, which is $101 in Golden Slipper betting.
Meanwhile, the Snowdens will also send colt Revivalist to Canterbury on Friday night where he will contest the Iron Jack 2YO Maiden Plate (1250m).
The Shalaa colt has had three trials in preparation for his debut where he is rated a $5.50 chance.
“He will get better in time,” Snowden said.
“”He will probably settle something in a midfield spot and the last furlong will be the strongest part of his race.
“Whatever he is doing, he will improve on.”
