Blazing Khal announced himself as a true Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle contender with an impressive comeback in the Grade Two Boyne Hurdle at Navan on Sunday.
Off the track since December 2021 Blazing Khal — trimmed to 5-2 for the Cheltenham marathon next month — was given a patient ride by Philip Byrnes, before quickening clear to triumph.
Winning trainer Charles Byrnes said: ‘It’s a relief really with the young fella (Philip) riding him. I thought he gave him a lovely ride and he settled grand for him.
‘He’s definitely a very good horse. He was working well and doing a lot of work over the last few weeks.
‘We did expect a big run. He was fairly straight. With him it’s day by day, but naturally we’ll be thinking of Cheltenham.

‘We’ve had so many false dawns with him. It’s just been little, niggly problems.
‘We would have preferred to have him out before now, but it is what it is. We can go to Aintree (in April) if we don’t make Cheltenham.’
Meanwhile, Sam Turner (Robin Goodfellow) smashed the bookmakers on Saturday when his nap selection Aucunrisque (9-1) landed the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.
It is the second Saturday in a row that Turner has landed his best bet following well-backed victory for Green Book (6-1) at Sandown.
