Baylee Nothdurft to ride at his lightest since riding comeback at Sunshine Coast Sunday
Premiership winning rider Baylee Nothdurft will ride at his lightest weight since making his comeback when he rides two-year-old filly Come Clean at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
The 2019-2020 champion Brisbane jockey hasn’t ridden under 57kg since he made a low-key return at Dalby early last month.
Resuming his riding career after a weight battle and being physically and mentally fried, Nothdurft is taking the slow and steady approach to cautiously lose weight and extend his riding career.
Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained filly Come Clean has 56.5kg in the QTIS 2YO Fillies Maiden Handicap (1000m) on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday and as first emergency she has got a run with Nothdurft to ride.
“It wasn’t Baylee’s intention to be riding 56.5 (kg) at the moment, he would rather ride at 57 (kg),” O’Dea explained.
“I half thought this filly might get 57 (kg) but Baylee will ride her.
“This filly always showed a bit in her trials but I was a little bit disappointed when she went to the races for the first time (finishing fourth over 900m at the Gold Coast last October).
“She was just slow out and you can’t do that over 900m at the coast, she got a little bit lost but she worked to the line OK.
“I think the big track on the Sunshine Coast will suit her.”
Meanwhile, O’Dea indicated further tests had been unable to find a reason for the failure of talented three-year-old filly Gotta Kiss in the 3YO Quality Handicap at Eagle Farm on April 3.
Gotta Kiss had “a couple of coughs” post-race after finishing a long last behind Tycoon Evie but the plan is now to push on towards the Listed Daybreak Lover (1400m) at Eagle Farm on April 17.
“We scoped her and everything was fine, there was nothing that was found,” O’Dea said.
“So it’s play on.
