QUIRINDI
BEST BET
Race 2 No. 10: Salire
Cameron Crockett trained gelding on debut who should run well off his impressive trial win at Muswellbrook last month.
NEXT BEST
Race 1 No., 14: One Step Ahead
One for the Split Enz fans; this filly ran OK in the Max Lees Classic on debut off a nice trial. Seems to have talent.
VALUE
Race 4 No. 2: Fanmalia
Very fit now; won two starts ago at Dubbo and was creditable to some degree at Newcastle after that.
QUADDIE
Race 4: 2,5
Race 5: 1,3
Race 6: 3,8
Race 7: 4,10,12
JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
Aaron Bullock has a big day ahead at Quirindi with several main players across the card.
RACE 4
Fanmalia has failed before to run out 2000m but only once and you get the impression that he is ready and able this time after winning two starts ago at Dubbo over the mile and quite a solid run last start at 1880m at Newcastle. Well placed today. Forever Jude has only won 2 from 31 but he has placed 14 times and is fit for purpose here to run the trip. Should get a good run for Bucko who knows him well. Dunoon is a Dundeel on-pacer but saddled with a wide draw.
Bet: Fanmalia win, quinella 2,5
RACE 5
Mr Severino is a lightly-raced type from the Sue Grills stable who has a second to The Grundler at Newcastle on the C.V when Mark Newnham had him. Only run for the new camp was that closing fifth of 14 at the Brook over 1280m and up to 1450m today. Dr Copper has only won once in 14 starts but that was over this same track and distance. Is invariably thereabouts and plainly in a race to suit. Mon Amore led and was utterly dominant winning at Port last Monday.
Bet: Mr Severino win, box trifecta 1,2,3,5
RACE 6
Farmer’s Friend has a tidy record of eight starts for two wins and three placings. The Cody Morgan trained gelding was last of 13 at the turn but was third to Ice In Vancouver no less at Tamworth when resuming. Second-up record is outstanding! Quick Nick wasn’t beaten at all far last start despite where he finished and he won the start before that. Wide draw is the only/main concern with him however. Khitammy has only won twice in 37 starts but one of them is at this track and distance. Value runner perhaps.
Bet: Farmer’s Friend win, exacta 3 to beat 8
RACE 7
Sublime Lady has been with Brett Cavanough for the last two of her seven career runs; they were a second and a last start win at Narromine where she absolutely bolted in. Can be no doubt that is considerably tougher an assignment today and she has a wide draw. The very best Now Or Never would be winning this – and most races she contests in fact. It’s just a matter of if and when she can produce her top rating. Excelensss is extremely well bred and obviously handy of what she has done in her three starts.
Bet: Sublime Lady win, box trifecta 2,4,6,10,12
MURWILLUMBAH
BEST BET
Race 5 No. 4: Daedalus
Lightly-raced local from the Matthew Dunn yard who has the talent to head to town soon.
NEXT BEST
Race 6 No. Hallowed Dreams
Dunn again; this time with a filly who handles the Soft tracks well and has some depth to her form.
VALUE
Race 1 No. 1: True Moonlight
Won on debut at Doomben, spelled after one run at Listed level two months later and is back now and ready to show his true talent.
RACE 4
The Matthew Dunn trained Our Flaming Moes is handy enough in fact one would have thought would have won a race or two by now but here we are. His best would easily be good enough to win this one at home! The Gold Coast visitor Not Too Hard was $41 into $21 first-up at Ipswich and was beaten a nose. That would suggest that he has come back well and Robbie Fradd is sticking solid. Harryup has a wide draw but it may no matter as much today.
Bet: Our Flaming Moes win
RACE 5
Dunn again here hopefully with Daedelus who shapes as the best bet on the card. This son of Rothesay shares his name with a horse who won the 1794 English Derby on debut! Wow. The present day Daedalus is building up to a win but he needs a good ride from the draw. Miss Pierpoint is winless after 16 starts but she has placed seven times. Her best runs have been on rain affected tracks. Could charge late here. Bob’N Cat has done enough to warrant respect.
Bet: Daedalus win, box trifecta 2,4,5,10
RACE 6
Matthew Dunn has a handy filly in Hallowed Dreams who has raced four times for a win, two seconds and a fourth on debut in a very, very strong maiden at Grafton back in October. She’s by the same sire as Colette and like her, she is effective on soft tracks. Bosendi has only won two from 25 but has 10 placings and eight of those are ‘seconds’. His father, Your Song, was a muddie and it seems the son goes OK on it too. Mirror Model was good first run for Dunn.
Bet: Hallowed Dreams win
RACE 7
Dual acceptor Satine (could be in race six today) is a Toby and Trent Edmonds trained three-year-old filly who hasn’t done much wrong in her 10 starts. Her form reads well enough, the draw is a big plus, she’s nicely in at the weights – all we need know is for her to handle the conditions. Dorset Coast could easily cement the Quaddie for Matthew Dunn today. He can be a pretty good horse on his best day but no real wet form to speak of. Neutron is by Starcraft who was a genuine muddie – and his form’s not bad either.
Bet: Satine win or if scratched, Neutron each-way, Dorset Coast each-way
