Nervous start for Scheffler, McIlroy equals lead
Crowd favourite Rory Mcllroy (-9) and Scottie Scheffler are also off from the first, with McIlroy close on the heels of leaders Fowler and Clark.
A nervous start for Scheffler who hit into the rough on the first hole, with no view of the green to give himself some direction.
He was able to rescue his ball on the third, and almost got away with a birdie, but will escape from the first with par to stay -7.
McIlroy had a more confident start and birdies the first hole for the fourth time this week. He’s chasing an elusive fifth title here, and is off to a perfect start, now on equal first at -10.
English and Johnson tee off
2016 US Open champion Dustin Johnson (-5) has just teed off, and he has a bit of history against him.
It’s been 25 years since a player has come from five back to win the tournament, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
Harris English (-6) is alongside him, and isn’t a stranger to the top end of the US Open, but never has he been able to claim the title.
His best result here was 3rd in 2021, but he will need a clean round if he hopes to topple Fowler or Clark.
