The Open prize money in full as Brian Harman gets huge payout for major win
Brian Harman is now £2.33m richer after winning The British Open on Sunday, his first major success as a professional. Harman’s last title was at the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship, ending a six-year wait.
Harman may have gone 167 tournaments without a win, but he’s now considerably richer after dominating The Open.
The 36-year-old won the last major of 2023, finishing 13-under-par for the event. Harman won The Open by six strokes, with Jon Rahm, Tom Kim, Jason Day, and Sepp Straka all tied second on -7.
The total prize purse increased from £10.89m to £12.83m this year, although it remains the lowest out of the four majors. But its doubled since 2016, and prize money in golf continues to soar.
While Harman pocketed £2.33m, Rahm, Day, Kim and Straka won £843,574 for finishing second, splitting the prize money equally for places second to fifth.
