Super six to take on men at Queensland Open
Jordan O’Brien has celebrated International Women’s Day in style, becoming the sixth female to snare a spot in the Queensland Open, which starts at Pelican Waters on Thursday.
A round of five under at Monday’s pre-qualifying tournament was enough for the 24-year-old Gold Coast amateur to join Steph Kyriacou, Sarah Wilson, Karis Davidson, Becky Kay and Grace Kim in the Open, where they will take on a full field of men.

“I just went other there and I tried my absolute best, and just took one shot at a time,” O’Brien said.
“I wasn’t really expecting it … the feeling is incredible and I’m stoked.
“I was putting really well and my short game was incredible, and I was really good off the tee, so I was happy with that as well.
“It’s a very special feeling considering it’s my first event of the year as well.
“The feeling of being able to compete against men, off the same tees also, it increases your confidence majorly.”
Bradley Kivimets topped the list of 23 players who qualified on Monday with a round of nine under at Pelican Waters.
The Open field will include five players – defending champion Anthony Quayle, David Bransdon, Andrew Dodt, Michael Sim and Jordan Zunic – who have previously won the event.
