Ryder Cup player ratings: Dustin Johnson leads USA from the front

RYDER CUP PLAYER RATINGS: Dustin Johnson was USA’s star man with FIVE points… but Europe’s Matt Fitzpatrick struggled mightily once again

  • USA regain Ryder Cup with dominant 19-9 win at Whistling Straits
  • Dustin Johnson leads from the front for Americans winning five points
  • Collin Morikawa plays key role for hosts, winning 3.5 points on Ryder Cup debut
  • Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm’s heroics not enough for Europe to retain trophy
  • Rory McIlroy finishes with one point after winning singles match on Sunday

The USA regained the Ryder Cup for the first time in five years after a record 19-9 win at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

Dustin Johnson led from the front for the USA, winning every match he played to finish with a maximum of five points, while Collin Morikawa went 3-1-0 in his Ryder Cup debut and secured the vital half-a-point that got the Americans over the line.

Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia valiantly flew the European flag as they won both of their foursomes, but it wasn’t enough for Padraig Harrington’s team to stem the American wave in front of a raucous partisan crowd.

Patty Ice, the intelligent Californian was as impressive on the course as he had been in the press conferences.

His eagle after driving to the green at the first yesterday was Incredible. You can’t take your eyes off him.

Another who starred as US raced in front. Not overused but played his part.

Likable pro who displayed putting skills that could land him a major if he can carry this form from Wisconsin.

Dustin Johnson 9

The veteran led from the front but behaved like a statesman, more than once calming the crowd. Brilliant.

Brooks Koepka 7

Given previous comments some wondered if he cared. Scowling, rowing with officials — maybe he cared too much.

Few better with an iron in the gloves and displayed it so many times here. Played a key role for the Americans.

Big man went halves on the earthquake moment late on Saturday when he chest-bumped DeChambeau after nailing a key 16-footer.

Left everybody speithless with his amazing chip from rough which almost ended up with him in Lake Michigan.

Loses points for chugging a beer in front of a baying crowd with half a day still to play on Saturday.

Brought valuable experience and dancing skills when he joined the crowd but not one for the ages.

Rolled back the years with some amazing shots and formed an armada with compatriot Jon Rahm. A great Ryder Cup career continues for Garcia.

Perpetual smiles but the baby-faced Norwegian will have expected to fare better.

Shane Lowry 7

Gave his all. His passion and pride were welcome additions to the Europe team room but will leave with an air of disappointment.

Seventh Ryder Cup for the postman but failed to deliver. Couldn’t make up for Rory’s struggles when paired together.

Jon Rahm 8.5

The best on the planet? The big Spaniard dovetailed superbly with Garcia and certainly did his bit.

Jon Rahm was Europe’s standout player and won both foursomes alongside Sergio Garcia

A Ryder Cup legend who, at 48, qualified on merit. Will not take many fond memories from this outing though.

Bernd Wiesberger 4.5

Not a debut to remember for the first Austrian to represent Europe. The biggest unknown in the side and will remain so.
