Mackenzie Hughes hit one of the most bizarre and unfortunate shots of the 2021 US Open when his tee shot on the 11th hole landed in a tree to the left of the green.

The Canadian had a share of the lead heading into the final round of the US Open after impressing through 54 holes.

He got off to a nervous start though with a bogey on the first to drop back into the chasing pack.

Back-to-back dropped shots followed on the fifth and sixth hole, leaving him at two-under for the tournament.

Hughes began to find his groove though heading towards the turn with impressive birdies on hole seven and nine to put him back in contention.
