Bryson DeChmabeau once again found himself caught up in controversy, after the world number six encountered a number of hecklers in his final round at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
DeChambeau’s torrid final round, four-over-par, 74 was made even worse following a number of heckles from spectators, as he was taunted with shouts of ‘Brooksy!’ throughout his final nine holes.
The 27-year-old has had an ongoing feud with fellow American golfer Brooks Koepka since August 2019, after Koepka slammed DeChambeau at the Northern Trust for his slow play at the event.
Since then the pair have had a number of encounters, both on social media and in person including at this year’s PGA Championship in May, after an unseen, leaked interview showed Koepka rolling his eyes and talking underneath his breath as DeChambeau walked past him.
Throughout their controversies, a number of Koepka supporters have heckled the world number six with the shout of ‘Brooksy’, none more so than at this week’s event in Memphis.

On the 12th hole of DeChambeau’s final round security were called to warn a group of spectators who were jeering the 27-year-old with Koepka comments to stop.
However, this didn’t seem to stop the taunting, as TV cameras again caught a spectator shouting ‘let’s go Brooksy!’ on the 16th tee at TPC Southwind towards the eight-time PGA Tour winner, to which he replied ‘good one’.
The 2020 US Open champion went into the final day of the event two shots behind leader Harris English as the two headed out together as the final pairing for the final round of the World Golf Championship.
In spite of this, a difficult day for both DeChambeau and English saw them drift away from the top of the leaderboard despite starting the day in pole position.
Following their day four difficulties, English felt the taunting the world number six suffered in his final round affected DeChambeau’s play on day four.

He said: “It’s not really fair for them to call him ‘Brooksy’ a lot.
“It kind of sucks and obviously he hears it, and it affects him a little bit and he doesn’t like it, and I think that causes them to do it more. It just sucks that that’s out here right now, that they’re trying to irk people like that. It’s just unfortunate.”
The downfall of the final pairing paved the way for Abraham Ancer, Hideki Matsuyama and Sam Burns to stake their claim for the World Golf Championship title, after the trio tied for the lead at 16-under following round four to force a three-man play-off.
As a result, it was Ancer who would eventually prevail on the second play-off hole as a birdie saw him secure his first ever PGA Tour title on his 121st start, whilst becoming the first ever Mexican to win a World Golf Championship.
