BREAKING: LIV Golf players are denied spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs
BREAKING NEWS: LIV Golf trio Gooch, Jones and Swafford are DENIED a spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs… as a federal judge refuses to grant them a temporary return to the PGA Tour
- Talor Gooch, Matt Jones, and Hudson Swafford are not allowed to compete
- The FedEx Cup playoffs is the season-ending event for the PGA Tour
- Tour commissioner Jay Monahan banned the three when they played LIV events
The three golfers who defected from the PGA Tour and joined LIV Golf are not allowed to compete in the upcoming FedEx Cup playoffs per a California judge’s ruling.
A federal judge for the Northern District of California upheld the PGA Tour’s ruling that LIV players Talor Gooch, Matt Jones, and Hudson Swafford could not compete in the series.
The FedEx Cup is the PGA Tour’s season-ending playoffs, with three tournaments played in the final three weekends of the calendar year.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan suspended the players for appearing in LIV tournaments earlier this year.
The judge ruled the players were unable to make their case of irreparable harm, agreeing with the PGA Tour’s position that their argument for emergency relief was of ‘their own making’.
The top-125 players qualify for the first round, the FedEx St. Jude Championship taking place at TPC Southwind in Memphis, TN.
Gooch currently sits 20th in the standings, with Jones and Swafford in 65th and 67th respectively.
