Zak Crawley has admitted England took ‘too long’ in the dressing rooms at the Oval on Monday, but strongly denied Australian claims that the hosts snubbed a post-series beer.
The angry Australians briefed media that Ben Stokes’s side had snubbed their offer of having a few drinks following a closely-fought series this summer, claiming that the hosts locked their dressing room doors when approached half a dozen times.
England captain Stokes, however, stated that his side’s post-series ‘wrap’ took longer than usual as tributes were paid to the retiring Stuart Broad and Moeen Ali and, by the time speeches had finished, the Aussies had left the South London cricket ground.
That assertion has been refuted by the Australian camp, with one source saying: ‘We don’t really care, we’ve got the urn, but after a hard-fought series it is pretty pathetic.’
And now, speaking to The Vaughany and Tuffers Cricket Club Podcast, Crawley acknowledged that England took ‘too long’ in the dressing room, but insisted that they did not snub the Aussies.

‘It was a shame that, the timing just didn’t work,’ the opener said.
‘Obviously both teams do a debrief and ours is usually a bit shorter than it was on Monday night.
‘We had ‘Broady’ (Stuart Broad) leaving, ‘Mo’ (Moeen Ali) leaving and one of the physios was leaving as well.
‘So, we had our normal debrief and a send-off for those guys. We were just in there a bit too long and it didn’t quite work for the Aussies.
‘That was a shame. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, the timings just didn’t quite work.’
