Warne ‘feels for’ Vaughan after BT Sport removal and positive Covid test

Shane Warne has admitted he ‘feels for’ Michael Vaughan after he was dropped by BT Sport whilst also contracting COVID-19.

Vaughan has been removed from BT Sport’s coverage from this winter’s Ashes series in Australia, after being accused of racism by Azeem Rafiq in the recent Yorkshire scandal.

Following his dropping things have now got even worse for the former England Test captain, as he has now tested positive for COVID-19.

One man who has offered sympathy is former Australian star Warne, who revealed he ‘feels for’ the 47-year-old following events in recent weeks.

Warne told The Sunday Morning Herald: “I feel for Michael Vaughan at the moment. I hope it all gets resolved very quickly.

“Vaughany is coming to my house on Christmas Day, so I hope he gets over his COVID. He is spending Christmas Day with my family and I.”

As well as being relieved of his Ashes commentating duties by BT, the BBC have also stripped him of his role at this winter’s series after he was set to be part of the Test Match Special radio team.

However, the former England captain will have some part to play this winter after it was confirmed he would be part of Australian broadcaster Fox Sports’ coverage.

Former rival Warne is also part of the Fox team, and believes Vaughan is a ‘great addition’ to the broadcaster’s coverage.

He continued: “I think he’s a fantastic commentator, a good addition to our team at Fox Cricket, and we’re looking forward to him coming out. Hopefully he’s out here soon.”

This proved a problem for BT Sport however, as the British broadcaster are set to use Fox’s coverage despite already revealing the 47-year-old would play no part in their production.

As a result, they are set to bring their own separate commentary team when Vaughan appears on air.

In a recent statement BT revealed that the former England skipper would play no part in their coverage, and were planning an alternative for when he makes an appearance on Fox.

The statement read: “Given these recent events and the controversy with the situation, we have taken the decision that including Michael Vaughan within our Ashes coverage would not be editorially appropriate or fit with BT Sport’s values.

“We are still finalising plans but we are assessing the option of taking a hybrid approach, using Fox commentary where possible with the aim of putting our own commentary team in place if necessary.”
