Video shows AFL star Paddy McCartin’s sickening alleged punch attack

Video has revealed the moment former No. 1 draft pick Paddy McCartin lost the plot during a VFL game on Saturday.

Trying to rebuild his career after a series of concussions forced him to abandon his career for three years, McCartin is under investigation for two alleged strikes towards the head of opponent Aaron Black in the Swans’ clash with Geelong in Sydney.

Foxsports.com.au obtained the vision which shows McCartin allegedly swinging his fist at Black twice in the opening minutes of the reserve grade match.

The second punch appears to connect with Black’s face and the Geelong player fell to the ground after initially staggering on his feet.

The report reveals Black suffered a swollen jaw.

The VFL is reportedly investigating the incident and McCartin is expected to face a lengthy suspension if the match review committee charges him with striking.

Reporter Tom Browne on Monday told Triple M McCartin is likely looking at a suspension between four and eight weeks.

“It can only be described as a pretty wild, Andrew Gaff, Barry Hall-like punch,” he said.

McCartin earlier this year said he wants to revive his AFL career and was hopeful of being drafted by the Swans in the 2021 mid-season draft.

Saturday’s incident appears a major setback in his hopes of joining brother Tom McCartin on the Swans’ senior list.

The 25-year-old is reported to have had eight incidents of concussion during his AFL career before he was forced to give up the game in 2019.

Having been drafted as the No. 1 pick for St Kilda in 2014, McCartin returned to play his first competitive game of football last month, making his debut for the Swans’ reserves.

He has been plotting a return to play at the AFL level ever since he says he was given the all-clear to return by a medical specialist more than 18 months ago.
