Unthinkable cock-up costs Canada T20 match against USA in most dramatic fashion
In a dramatic T20 World Cup qualifying match between Canada and America, the USA came out on top after forcing the game to a super over.
Canada posted a total of 142-5 in their innings and the USA were left needing 13 runs to win off the final over.
The over began with a wide and then saw Jaskaran Malhotra, the batter who notably hit six sixes in one over back in September, run out.
Karima Gore struck a six off the fourth ball of the over to leave his side needing three to win from the last two balls.
However, he was given out LBW the next delivery to leave Canada in pole position to win the game.
Off the final ball, Ali Khan had a swing and a miss and the non-striker, former South Africa international Rusty Theron, attempted to steal a single.
Canada's wicketkeeper, Hamza Tariq, gathered the ball and ran to the stumps to remove the bails.
Canada's players ran off in wild celebration and their coaching staff and bench also piled onto the pitch, assuming Theron had been run out and they had won the game.
However, the umpires did not give Theron out and the USA were able to complete a second run and earn a super over.
Despite protestations from Canada, the super over went ahead and it was the USA who emerged victorious, with Khan successfully defending 22.

Speaking after the win, Malhotra told journalist Peter Della Penna : "When it's given not out, he's ready for the second run. The game is not done because we have to take the second run.
"As soon as Hamza threw the ball and the ball went towards the cover fielder, we had to take the second run.
"It was a little sloppy on behalf of Canada but we will take it with both hands."
