James Anderson, Ollie Robinson and Wood toppled Pakistan’s tail after the break to seal England’s win by 26 runs and hand Stokes his eighth Test victory as captain in nine matches. Reflecting on England’s superb victory, Sportsmail has rated each player’s performance during the second Test.

Fast bowler Mark Wood was instrumental for England with two quick wickets ahead of lunch

Zak Crawley 3

The first of Abrar’s 11 victims, but threw his wicket away in the second innings chancing a non-existent single. Held two important slip catches off Root.

Ben Duckett 8.5

Made brilliant use of his expertise on the sweep and reverse-sweep to play Abrar as well as anyone, scoring 142 runs off 147 balls. One of the biggest successes of the tour.

Ollie Pope 7

Sparkled for 60 on the first day, then ran himself out on the third after dropping down to No 6. Continued to keep well after England left out Foakes.

Ollie Pope took a smart catch to dismiss Saud Shakeel on 94 runs just before the lunch break

Joe Root 6.5

A rare quiet Test with the bat, but looked the most threatening of England’s three spinners, and held a crucial catch on the third evening to see off Imam.

Harry Brook 8.5

Gave it away in the first session of the game, but showed his class with a second-innings century, including the shot of the game – inside-out over extra cover as Zahid Mahmood pitched a leg-break into the rough.

Ben Stokes 7

Made 30, when he was undone by Abrar’s brilliance, and 41, when he gave it away. Didn’t bowl at all as he continues to manage his weary body, but his captaincy record is becoming immense.

Will Jacks 5

Bowled just four overs in each innings, so barely qualified as the third spinner. Made a lively 31 in the first innings, but his promotion to No 3 in the second, to give Pope a break, did not pay off. May struggle to keep his place for Karachi.

Will Jacks failed to impress at No 3 despite knocking a promising total of 31 in the first innings

Ollie Robinson 8

Match figures of three for 25 off 19.1 overs included Babar Azam, bowled twice for the first time in his Test career. Robinson has grown in stature on this tour, and now has Test bowling average of 19.61.

Mark Wood 9

His first Test since March was one of his best. Six wickets in the match, including three on the last day to thwart Pakistan’s chase. His first-innings 36 not out proved crucial in the final ledger too.

Jack Leach 6

Four wickets were central to Pakistan’s collapse on the second morning, but he was ineffective in the fourth innings and cost 211 runs in all. Bowled first ball reverse-sweeping in the first innings.

James Anderson 8

Produced the ball of the series to knock over Mohammad Rizwan’s off stump in the second innings, having removed Imam with his eighth delivery in the first.
