A captivating four-wicket haul from Oval Invincibles’ Tash Farrant saw her side bowl out Birmingham Phoenix and ease to a 20-run victory in yesterday’s women’s Hundred eliminator.

On a stodgy Oval wicket allowing for much pace and bounce, both sides struggled to score runs.

Birmingham appeared in prime position to secure victory with Amy Jones playing a captain’s knock to hit 35 runs off 25 balls — including six boundaries.

Birmingham were in prime position until Farrant dismissed Amy Jones and the wickets began to tumble

The wicketkeeper was firmly set with team-mate Erin Burns but once she was dismissed by left-armer Farrant, the wickets began to tumble as the last five batters perished for 13 runs between them.

It was some performance from Greek-born Farrant, in which she displayed both seam and bounce to bowl the opposition out for 94, showcasing how women’s cricket has flourished in these past few weeks.

The Invincibles will now play Southern Brave in the women’s final on Saturday at Lord’s.

Invincibles captain Dane van Niekerk was effusive in her praise of Farrant, saying: ‘Tash is just someone who gets us going. I asked for something spectacular and she stepped up. She was incredible. A couple of times, I almost cried.’

The Invincibles’ batting line-up never got going and lost two early wickets for just 15 runs.

First, Georgia Adams nicked Issy Wong’s delivery to Amy Jones. Then Van Niekerk was caught off Emily Arlott’s bowling.

The run drought continued before Marizanne Kapp and 16-year-old Alice Capsey put together a 54-run partnership.

After the impressive Capsey was run out by Katie Mack, a collapse ensued to produce a below-par 114 for seven wickets.

In familiar pattern, Phoenix lost both openers for a duck after Kapp had Mack and Evelyn Jones caught behind the wicket.

A rebuilding period followed before Amy Jones stepped to the fore in a display of counter-hitting alongside team-mate Burns.

Once Farrant dismissed the Phoenix captain with an off-cutter, the remaining batters faced an insurmountable task.
