Mickey Arthur's arrival at Derbyshire DELAYED until later this month
Mickey Arthur’s arrival at Derbyshire is DELAYED until later this month at least due to visa problems… with county initially hopeful he would start work before Christmas following his appointment as head of cricket
- Sportsmail revealed Derbyshire’s interest in Mickey Arthur in November
- But the 53-year-old South African has remained grounded in Western Australia
- Covid restrictions and passport issues mean he has not joined up with county
Visa problems have delayed Mickey Arthur’s arrival at Derbyshire until late January at the earliest.
Derbyshire, whose interest in the former Sri Lanka coach was exclusively revealed by Sportsmail, were hoping their new head of cricket would start work before Christmas.
However, Covid restrictions and passport issues have meant the 53-year-old South African has remained grounded at his family home in Western Australia.

Derbyshire have turned to Arthur in a bid to invigorate their fortunes: they won just six matches across all competitions in 2021, fewer than all their 17 first-class rivals.
But he is still set to succeed Zimbabwean Dave Houghton, who stepped down at the end of the 2021 season.
Arthur has extensive experience on the international circuit as head coach of his native South Africa, Australia and Pakistan prior to taking the Sri Lanka post in December 2019.
Although a youthful Sri Lanka side failed to make the semi-finals of last year’s Twenty20 World Cup, they won plaudits for their freedom of expression under Arthur, who previously guided Pakistan to Champions Trophy success as well as the number one ranking in both Test and T20 cricket.
