Meg Lanning takes indefinite break from cricket

Australia’s captain Meg Lanning is taking a break from cricket for personal reasons, with no timeline set for her return.

The 30-year-old has withdrawn from The Hundred tournament in England and the announcement comes after her team won gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Lanning has been the national team captain since 2014, in recent years overseeing a run of unsurpassed success including two Twenty20 World Cups, this year’s 50-over World Cup in New Zealand and the gold medal in Birmingham.

“After a busy couple of years, I’ve made the decision take a step back to enable me to spend time focusing on myself,” Lanning said.

“I’m grateful for the support of [Cricket Australia] and my teammates and ask that my privacy is respected during this time.”
