IPL star proposes to girlfriend in stands – despite his side suffering defeat
India international Deepak Chahar proposed to his girlfriend in the stands after his side was defeated in the Indian Premier League.
Chahar was playing for the Chennai Super Kings in their game against the Punjab Kings and, despite coming out on the wrong side of the result, the 29-year-old enjoyed a moment he will never forget after the game.
TV cameras captured the moment he got down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend, who duly said 'yes'.
On Instagram, Chahar wrote: "Picture says it all . Need all your blessings #taken"
The Super Kings, meanwhile, tweeted their congratulations: "Cher-io Super happy for Namma cherry! #WhistlePodu for the super couple!"
On commentary, former New Zealand bowler Danny Morrison said: "Deepak Chahar, look at this, proposal to Jaya his fiance.
"Look at that, she said yes! No surprises there, the ring on and over the moon. Love is in the air, it certainly is here in Dubai at the resumption of VIVO IPL 14. Wonderful scenes here."
In the game, Chennai were beaten by six wickets, with KL Rahul the star of the show.
Rahul scored a magnificent 98 not out off just 42 balls as the Punjab Kings chased down their target with seven overs remaining.
Chahar bowled his full quota of four overs during the match but proved to be expensive, picking up 1-48.
Speaking after the game, Rahul said: "It was really hot today. Plan was simple. The numbers guys told us a few permutations and combinations.
"We wanted to score it before 14 overs. Just one of those days when it comes off. Had complete clarity of what I wanted to do.
"I feel like I may end up letting the team down if I play how I want to play. But today, this was how I needed to play.
"Today was one of those days where I could hit every ball. No better feeling than hitting the ball from the middle of the bat."
