India and Pakistan cricketers approved entry for England tours despite countries being on Covid-19 red list with players and staff set to quarantine at the Ageas Bowl

The Government has approved the entry of cricketers from India and Pakistan for tours of England this summer – despite both countries being on the current Covid-19 ‘red list’.
India’s men’s team are due in England for a five-Test series and also the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The country’s women’s team are also due in England for a multi-format series.
Pakistan’s men’s team are set to play three one-day internationals and three T20 internationals against England in July.
India’s players and staff have been granted entry for their summer tour of England despite the country currently being on the Government’s Covid-19 red list

Both nations are on the red list which ordinarily only permits entry for British citizens.
The touring parties will still have to quarantine but can do so at the Ageas Bowl rather than in an approved Government hotel when they arrive.
New Zealand will also be based at the Hampshire venue but their quarantine rules are less stringent as the country is on the Government’s green list.
Sri Lanka, who are due in England for white ball matches in late June and early July, are currently on the amber travel list.

New Zealand won’t have to go through such stringent quarantine with their country on the UK green list for travel as it stands
The rules cover players and support staff but not families, although negotiations are ongoing around allowing family members into the UK given the India team is here for four months until mid-September.
The World Test Championship will be played over five days between June 18 and 22.
India then take on England in five Tests throughout August and September.
Prior to that, England play New Zealand in two Tests commencing on June 2 and name their squad on Tuesday afternoon for that series.
The protocols for players from red-listed Pakistan and South Africa arriving to participate in the inaugural The Hundred tournament remains unclear.
