‘Harder than when we lost Willow’: Amie Rohan opens up on marriage breakdown devastation
The ex-wife of Geelong Cats star Gary Rohan has said the end of her marriage was harder than when the pair lost a child.
The Rohan’s four-year marriage reportedly ended when the AFL went into its bubble in 2020, just months after the birth of the pair’s third child Sadie Rose in March last year.

Amie was a notable absentee when many of the club’s partners and children joined the players inside their Gold Coast isolation hub in August.
She stayed behind on the Bellarine Coast near Geelong with daughters Bella and 11-month-old Sadie Rose.

The pair had lost the third child Willow Nevaeh, Bella’s twin, just five hours after she was born, having suffered a fatal neural tube defect with no cure known as anencephaly.
While the pair knew that Willow would not survive after birth, it didn’t make it any easier.
Amie has spoken about the pain of the loss in the past, having suffered PTSD, post natal anxiety and post natal depression since the passing of Willow.
But, speaking on the Move Your Mind podcast, the Instagram influencer has opened up on the loss of her marriage with Rohan and comparing it to losing her child.
“Last year was hard for me and every single day I showed up for my girls,” she said.
“Every single day I got out of bed and faced the day ahead of me.
“The days after my marriage breakdown were some of the hardest days of my life, harder than when we lost Willow.
“But I still got out of bed every day and faced whatever the day brought.”

After some time apart however, Amie said she’s beginning to gain more control over her life and is beginning to heal.
“My marriage broke down midway through last year and I spoke to one of my close girlfriends …. and I said being dealt a trauma on top of a trauma that I thought I had completely healed from is something that I have really struggled with,” Amie told the podcast.
“And she turned around and said, ‘Amie, you have lost a child. You are never, ever going to completely heal from that, ever’.
“And when she said that to me I was like, ‘I never truly will,’ but as long as I am getting up every day, I am acknowledging how I am feeling, I am seeking the help, which I have, and I am continually checking in with the people to help me be the better version of me every day; that is the healing, isn’t it.
“It is a constant process and you need to continually do it. There isn’t an end point.”
Amie and Gary were childhood sweethearts and married in 2016.
While it appeared to be a storybook romance, the Geelong speedster parted ways with wife Amie Rohan last year — who posted a gorgeous photo of herself and her daughters this week.
Rohan has since shared an image to Instagram in which he was cosying up to his daughters and a mystery woman.

While he didn’t identify his apparent new belle on Instagram, The Herald Sun reports Rohan is dating Madi Bennett, a physiotherapist who once worked for the Cats.
Rohan is yet to speak publicly about the speculation surrounding his link with Bennett.
It is rumoured that the new relationship led to friction between Rohan and teammate Tom Hawkins, who reportedly confronted Rohan about his behaviour inside the AFL’s COVID-19 bubble.
