Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc hail ‘superstar’ after T20 World Cup final win
Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc have both hailed Adam Zampa after Australia’s comprehensive T20 World Cup final win over New Zealand.
Zampa has played an integral role in Australia’s successes throughout the competition, taking 12 wickets at an average of just 12.07 and an economy rate of 5.81 runs per over.
The 29-year-old leg-spinner was also key in the final, with his four overs costing just 26 runs as he also picked up the key wicket of the dangerous Martin Guptill.
Speaking after the victory, Maxwell praised Zampa’s performances throughout the competition.
‘He’s been a superstar in this format as well as one-day cricket for a long period of time,’ he said.
‘I’ve had the pleasure of having him at the Melbourne Stars and watching him go about his work for a long time so to watch him bring it to international cricket there’s no edges whatsoever.
‘He’s fitted in so well and the last three years as a leg-spinner, I don’t think there are many better in the world.’
Meanwhile, left-arm seamer Starc said the squad’s togetherness has helped them get through some tough times, before also singling out the spinner.
‘The closeness of the group. We’ve had a great time here, off the field, and getting around each other and I think that has shown in the way we’ve played our cricket. We’ve all chipped in and contributed,’ he added.
‘Adam Zampa has been fantastic. He’s been our best bowler in the last couple of years with the white ball by far. He’s made it really easy for us quick bowlers to work in around him.’
