Former AFL star Dane Swan urges people to get vaccinated against Covid-19

Former AFL star Dane Swan star has urged his followers to get vaccinated against Covid-19 as soon as possible in a call to arms on social media.

The Collingwood great posted a selfie to his Instagram account of himself after he received his jab, wearing a mask and with a band-aid on his shoulder on the spot where he was vaccinated.

Swan’s post was accompanied by a lengthy caption, in which he said he was sick of feeling “like a prisoner” and explained vaccination is the only path out of lockdowns.

“Yep I just got vaccinated, why?” he wrote.

“Cause I hate being stuck behind my front door being treated like a prisoner in the state I live in.

“And whether we like it or not the only way we are ever gonna be treated like humans again and live a normal life is by all being vaccinated.

“So while we all whinge and complain about being locked down let’s just all go and get the jab so we can get back to being free and living normal lives.

“And if that still isn’t good enough do it for all the kids who haven’t been able learn, play, interact with other children. It’s hurting them the most.

“And if that’s not good enough well summer is coming and who doesn’t wanna have a beer in a pub with all their mates then.

“And let’s face it, most of the people who won’t get it have put worse in their body at 3am in a cubicle or dance floor somewhere so the quicker we all do it the quicker we can move on with all our lives and get back to those dance floors.

“Now I’m off to couch to eat ice cream for 24 hours.”

Melbourne is currently in the midst of its sixth lockdown, which will continue until 2 September.

Victoria recorded 24 new cases on Wednesday — 18 were in quarantine while infectious and six were in the community for some or all of the time before they were diagnosed.

Last month, Swan vented his fury as Victoria was forced into yet another lockdown after a rise in case numbers, posting an expletive-filled rant to Twitter.

“Every single a**hole who came into Melbourne from Sydney, broke the rules and f***ed us all again need to be named and shamed and jailed for life,” he wrote.

“And maybe some water boarding too. #c***s”.

However, Swans’s latest comments urging people to get vaccinated are a change of tune from the former Brownlow medallist, who has previously slammed the Victorian government for enforcing several statewide lockdown.

In June, the vocal critic of the Melbourne lockdown during the city’s 2020 Covid-19 crisis called for all the senior officials at the head of the government’s coronavirus response to be sacked.

His public call came after it was announced lockdown has been extended for parts of the state after days of rising Covid-19 infections.

It was all too much for Swan, who made his anger clear on Twitter, where he singled out Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, Deputy Premier James Merlino, chief health officer Brett Sutton and Health Minister Martin Foley.

“And it’s not because they are extending lockdown it’s cause we are back here once again,” Swan posted on Twitter.

“Every other state seems to have it under control but our leaders are so incompetent they continually fail us. They should all stand aside and give someone else a go.

“Ive no idea bout politics or the left & right, I guess I’d be somewhere in the middle like most rational people but how anyone could vote for the people currently in charge of Victoria again beggars belief. How they manage to continually f*** … Victorians is incredible.”
