Former AFL star Dane Swan lets rip at covid rule-breakers in rant

Former AFL star Dane Swan has posted an epic rant following the news Melbourne will be entering another lockdown due to the city’s latest Covid-19 outbreak.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed Victoria will go into a hard lockdown from 11.59pm Thursday night to 11.59pm next Tuesday night.

A major shopping precinct in Melbourne’s southeast – as well as two gyms – have been added to Victoria’s rapidly expanding list of exposure sites after Covid-19 skipped the border from NSW.

The state recorded two new Covid-19 cases in addition to the 10 infections officially announced this morning.

They are all linked to a team of Sydney removalists and a family that returned to Melbourne’s north from a NSW red zone.

The Department of Health added four alerts linked to Oakleigh Central Shopping Centre this afternoon.

Former Brownlow medallist Swan has vented his fury at the situation, posting an expletive-filled rant to Twitter.

“Every single a**hole who came into Melbourne from Sydney, broke the rules and f***ed us all again need to be named and shamed and jailed for life,” he wrote.

“And maybe some water boarding too. #c***s”.

The tweet was accompanied by a GIF from Liam Neeson’s Taken film franchise with the caption: “I will find you and I will kill you”.

It’s not the first time the Collingwood great has made his feelings about Victoria’s Covid-19 situation known on social media.

Last month, the vocal critic of the Melbourne lockdown during the city’s 2020 Covid-19 crisis called for all the senior officials at the head of the government’s coronavirus response to be punted.

His public call came after it was announced lockdown has been extended for parts of the state after days of rising Covid-19 infections.

It was all too much for Swan, who made his anger clear on Twitter, where he singled out Andrews, acting Premier James Merlino, Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton and Health Minister Martin Foley.

@DanielAndrewsMP@JamesMerlinoMP@MartinFoleyMP@VictorianCHO and the rest of their band of merry men need to give someone else a go cause what they are doing is clearly not working.

“And it’s not because they are extending lockdown it’s cause we are back here once again,” Swan posted on Twitter.

“Every other state seems to have it under control but our leaders are so incompetent they continually fail us. They should all stand aside and give someone else a go.

“Ive no idea bout politics or the left & right, I guess I’d be somewhere in the middle like most rational people but how anyone could vote for the people currently in charge of Victoria again beggars belief. How they manage to continually f*** … Victorians is incredible.”

He also had a message for any Twitter followers who dared question his credentials to talk about the complex issue.

It’s also quite amusing that cause Im not an expert in Australian politics people here tell me I’m not allowed to tweet about it. That’s like me saying everyone on here who has never played a game of AFL isn’t allowed to tweet about AFL. I refuse to stick to my lane pic.twitter.com/s5BI8oeD4Z

On Thursday, Victorian health authorities confirmed two new Covid-19 cases had been identified among people who had attended the Geelong vs Carlton game at the MCG on 10 July.

The two new cases are linked to level two of the MCG members reserve.

The latest outbreak has wreaked havoc on the AFL season.

On Thursday, it was confirmed the Round 18 AFL match between Richmond and Brisbane scheduled for Friday night at the MCG has been moved to Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium.

It will be one of four games to be held at Metricon Stadium this weekend.

The North Melbourne vs Essendon game has also been moved to the Gold Coast.
