England vs New Zealand live score and updates from T20 World Cup semi-final

England take on New Zealand today in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup, with both sides looking to book a spot in the final on November 14.

The two teams meet on neutral ground in the UAE today for their first match at an ICC event since the dramatic 2019 50-over World Cup final, which saw Eoin Morgan's side emerge victorious after a Super Over thanks to the boundary countback rule.

Both sides have impressed at the tournament so far, each losing just one game in the Super 12 stage.

England will have to fill the void left by the injured Jason Roy, who became the second star to be ruled out of the tournament through injury after Tymal Mills.

New Zealand, meanwhile, have lost Lockie Ferguson to injury and will be hoping that captain Kane Williamson is fully fit after struggling with a recurring elbow problem for most of the year.

Keep it right here for all the latest updates throughout the match.

England: Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult

England: 130-3

That is a big six from Moeen, who charges down the pitch and smashes Sodhi over the legside boundary.

That is just what England need in these last few overs.

He attempts to reproduce the shot the next ball, but Sodhi bowls it flatter and Moeen is unable to make contact.

11 from the over.

England: 119-3

After a dramatic start to the over which saw a six and a wicket, Southee ends his spell by conceding three singles.

He finishes with figures of 1-24.

Wicket!

Having smacked Southee for the first six of the innings, Malan edges behind to Conway and he is out for 41 off 30 balls.

England are 116-3.

Liam Livingstone is the new man in and England will be hoping that he can produce some of the towering sixes that he is known for.

England: 110-2

Boult is back into the attack and Moeen gets away with one, having been deceived by the slower ball and launching the ball high in the air.

However, it fell short of Southee who was sprinting in from long-off and Moeen is able to find the boundary two balls later, flicking Boult off his pads for four.

Moeen is on the attack.

England: 100-2

Milne continues and the speedster shells a difficult chance to catch Malan in his followthrough.

England pick up six from the over as they continue to struggle to find the boundary with any regularity.

The hundred is up with six overs remaining and England will be desperate to finish the innings well.

England: 94-2

The Phillips experiment is brought to an end after one over and Sodhi returns, starting his third over with a wide down the legside.

Moeen ends the over with an important boundary, slapping a poor ball from Sodhi behind square for four.

England: 85-2

Milne is back into the attack after his excellent first over and he immediately starts with a slowerball, which Moeen taps into the gap for a single.

Malan then crashes Milne through the covers with another glorious shot, but Phillips is able to stop the ball from reaching the boundary and England pick up three.

Although England aren't able to find the boundary in that over, they do manage to add seven.

England: 78-2

Part-timer Glenn Phillips now replaces Sodhi, with his off-spin viewed by New Zealand as an ideal matchup to England's left handers.

However, Malan looks to attack and he immediately steps away and smashes Phillips through the covers for four, before lofting him for another boundary two balls later.

The matchup certainly hasn't worked in that over, with England picking up 11.

England: 67-2

Jimmy Neesham is now into the attack, with New Zealand wary of continuing with Santner now that England have two left handers at the crease.

Conway shells a difficult chance to dismiss Malan, with the ball going low to his left.

Malan immediately punishes him with a glorious drive to end the over with a four.

England are halfway through their innings now and will be looking to kick on in the final ten overs.

England: 60-2

Moeen immediately gets off the mark with a single to long-off and Malan ends the over by lofting Sodhi into the off side for four.

Wicket!

That's the big one for New Zealand!

Buttler has been given out LBW after attempting to reverse sweep Sodhi but he calls for the review.

However, the ball is going on to hit the stumps and Buttler is sent packing for 29.

England are 53-2 and Mooen Ali is the new man in.

England: 53-1

It's spin from both ends for New Zealand as Mitchell Santner replaces Milne.

It appears as though England have tasked their left-handers with attacking Santner and Malan immediately looks to smash him out to the legside boundary.

Buttler looks to sweep Santner, breaking out the reverse twice in the over and finding the boundary once to bring the fifty up for England.

England: 45-1

Legspinner Ish Sodhi is now into the attack and England are content to milk him for singles, picking up five runs from the over.

England: 40-1

That is an excellent first over from Milne, who follows up the wicket by conceding just three runs from the remaining deliveries.

The powerplay has now come to an end.

Wicket!

The bowling change brings the breakthrough!

Adam Milne gets Bairstow out caught by Kane Williamson at mid-off for 13 with his first ball.

The umpires have sent it upstairs but the soft signal is out and replays show that Williamson gathered the ball cleanly.

England are 37-1 and Dawid Malan is the new man in.

England: 37-0

Southee continues into his third over and Bairstow is finally able to find some timing, lofting him back over his head for four.

Eight runs off the over.

England: 29-0

Boult continues and he immediately gets crunched for back-to-back fours by Buttler, who is looking to accelerate.

Boult digs the ball in short but the ball flies over the heads of both Buttler and New Zealand keeper Devon Conway and runs down to the boundary.

An expensive over.

England: 13-0

Bairstow has struggled to time the ball so far and that continues against Southee, as he twice gets hit on the pad.

Just the one run conceded from that over.

England: 12-0

Trent Boult takes the new ball alongside Southee and he starts with a succession of dot balls to Bairstow, eliciting a play and miss with an excellent delivery.

Bairstow finishes the over by finding the boundary, getting a lucky edge which runs down to fine leg for four.

England: 6-0

Jonny Bairstow, promoted up the order to open in Roy's absence, also got off the mark with a single.

Southee did manage to get some late swing and that will certainly offer some encourangement to New Zealand's impressive seam attack.

Despite a good start to the over, Southee strays onto Buttler's pads with the final delivery and gets flicked away to the boundary for four.

We are underway!

It is Tim Southee who opens the bowling for New Zealand and Jos Buttler immediately gets off the mark, pulling the ball into the legside.

Toss and team news

New Zealand have won the toss and will bowl first.

England XI: Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

New Zealand XI: Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult

Who will replace Roy?

England will be without star opener Jason Roy after he tore his calf in the defeat to South Africa in the Super 12s.

Roy is a key member of England's T20 side and he has formed an outstanding partnership at the top of the order with Jos Buttler, meaning he will be a major loss.

England do have a number of other options to open the innings alongside Buttler in the semi-final, and Mirror Sport has taken a look at five potential replacements.

Welcome!

England captain Eoin Morgan is "extremely excited" about going up against New Zealand in their T20 World Cup semi-final clash.

Asked whether England should be considered favourites for the match, Morgan said: "I wouldn’t say strong favourites.

"New Zealand have a full-strength squad, we’ve obviously been hampered with a lot of injuries throughout this tournament.

"We’re playing really good cricket, the guys are extremely excited about the challenge against New Zealand and potentially the opportunity that might follow that.

"But we need to play really good cricket in order to beat the Black Caps. We can’t wait."

Kiwi skipper Williamson, meanwhile, reflected on the 2019 World Cup final and insisted that his side look back "fondly" on the game despite coming up short.

"It was an amazing game to be a part of and certainly all the guys, when it does come up in conversation, it’s looked back on fondly and we appreciate that experience," he said.

"At the time all the aftermath was very difficult to understand and perhaps didn’t make a lot of sense but it is what it is: you sign up, you play by the rules, you move on and look forward to the next challenges.

"As a group they continue to come thick and fast and that’s where we like to put our focus."
