‘Better than that’: Riewoldt reveals message to Dees young gun after sledge
Richmond star Jack Riewoldt has explained why he ran across the ground on Saturday night to speak with Melbourne youngster Kysaiah Pickett after the 19-year-old’s scoreboard sledge.
After kicking a goal in the final term, Pickett got stuck into opponent Rhyan Mansell, pointing at the scoreboard and instigating a push-and-shove among players.
Riewoldt could be seen coming from the other side of the ground to say something to Pickett – which he unpacked on AFL 360.
The sledge was a kick in the guts for the Tigers, as the Demons notched six straight wins to start their season — the first time since 1965.

AFL: Richmond Tiger Jack Riewoldt explains why he picked out Melbourne Demon Kysaiah Pickett in a scuffle.
“He’s probably one of my favourite players to watch play … I just said you’re probably better than that,” he said.
“Just enjoy playing footy. But some guys go about it differently.”
Pickett’s teammate Christian Petracca agreed he may’ve overstepped the line, pointing out that coach Simon Goodwin had addressed it with the Pick 12 afterwards.
“You want to be humble when you win I think. I think Goody would’ve spoken to him,” he said.
“There’s vision of Goody when he came onto the bench and Goody had his arm around him he would’ve said something to him.”
Riewoldt stressed that, in his earlier playing days, he may’ve been guilty of a similar mindset to Pickett’s, but wanted the Dees young gun to be remembered for his stunning ability in the years to come, rather than any overzealous actions towards the opposition.
“For what he is as a player, he’s arguably in the top five most exciting players in the competition at 19 years of age, I just want him to be known for how good of a player he is already and how great he’s going to be because he has got something really special,” he said.
“He could be the next Cyril Rioli. It’s a big call but he’s got that sort of ability to get the Melbourne fans and neutral fans through the gates.”
