Australian cricket fans have complained of bad sportsmanship from their English counterparts after Steve Smith was booed onto the field for his 100th Test match.
Smith, 34, was heralded by his teammates for reaching the huge milestone this week but walked out onto Headingley to a chorus of boos from the Leeds masses.
And Aussie fans watching Down Under have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment at the treatment of their star batter.
Sonja Hood, the chief executive of Aussie Rules club North Melbourne, highlighted the hypocrisy of English fans bemoaning Australian breaching the ‘spirit of the game’ after the Bairstowgate saga, but going onto display unsporting conduct on Thursday.
‘Listening to the crowd booing off one of the best cricketers of all time in his 100th Test and reminding myself that we’ve just endured a weeks’ worth of pious lectures on good sportsmanship from that country,’ she posted on Twitter.

England’s treatment of Steve Smith has been called out by rival Australian supporters
Other fans backed Hood, and labelled English fans the worst in cricket.
‘Spirit of cricket when it suits England and rules are rules when it suits England,’ one fan said.
‘English crowds are the worst in the world,’ said another fan.
‘Booing a player entering the field of play in their 100th test! #SpiritOfCricket,’ a third added.
English fans on Twitter were quick to point out that the Aussies have spent the week mocking them for ‘whingeing’ in the build up to the third Test, but have now taken to moaning themselves over the treatment of Smith.
‘Aussies whinging again… and you have the temerity to call the English whingers,’ a fan responded. ‘You whinge more than you cheat and that’s saying something.’
