AFL, NRL announce game-changing new Kayo partnership
A historic, long-term partnership between Foxtel, Kayo and Telstra has been revealed, with the Telstra live app, which sits within the AFL and NRL live apps, to be effectively replaced by Kayo to bring fans the ultimate streaming experience.
Telstra chief executive Andy Penn made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon in a virtual event with Foxtel Group chief executive Patrick Delany, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan and NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo.
The partnership will give Telstra Live Pass customers the ability to subscribe to Kayo at a discounted price for access to 50 sports, including the AFL and NRL codes.

“Foxtel and Kayo have done an outstanding job building, what is today, the leading streaming sports service in Australia – and so now what we’re going to be able to bring to Telstra customers is not only live streaming of AFL and NRL, but more than 50 sports,” Penn said.
“Importantly, they’ll be able to watch it not only on their mobile device, but across all platforms, all devices.”
“We launched Live Pass back in 2012 and it’s really served our customers well … But streaming has moved on and we’re now seeing streaming across all platforms, whether it’s tablets, whether it’s in home on the big screen or whether it’s on a mobile device. What this enables us to do is really open up the world of sport to Telstra customers.”

Eligible Live Pass customers will be able to access Kayo with a $20 discount, meaning customers will only have to pay $5 to access 50 sports across platforms, including live AFL and NRL games.
Delany said Kayo is a “bold and unique” product that’s “made for the streaming generation which is on the boil and moving”. He said he was delighted Telstra was throwing its support behind Kayo to be “the sports offering for all of its mobile customers”.
“It’s such a bold move by Telstra,” Delany said. “It’s one that we had to act on and support and be bold as well.
“We’re delighted to be supporting Telstra, and together we go hard into the streaming world and it’s Kayo platform is going to be Australia’s No. 1 sports platform as we go forward.”
The AFL in December announced a new agreement with broadcast partners Foxtel and Telstra that saw its coverage rights extended until at least the end of 2024.
McLachlan said the new partnership would bring fans closer to the game.
“It’s a perfect pairing and a must for every footy and sports fan,” he said.

“We all know we have the very best game in the world and we continue to attract and retain the best broadcast partners in world sports — ones who bring footy fans the very best content on demand, wherever and whenever they need.
“Today I’m sure is the start of many great things to come.”
Abdo said the announcement provided an opportunity for NRL fans to consume even more content.
“What we are so excited about is that our fans get more flexibility and are no longer locked to a screen of a certain size and they’re no longer locked to different platforms in different contexts. They can watch it when they want and how they want it and this partnership between Telstra and Kayo and the NRL is going to enable that,” Abdo said.
“The flexibility is there but also the value and the depth.
“The opportunity not just to get the live game streamed, but more importantly to get the high quality magazine shows which exist on Fox League, the minis and all the other wonderful features that the Kayo platform offers – it is wonderful technology, it’s great content.
“It means our fans get all of that at unbelievable value. So this is a win for the fans.”
