Liam Williams fires shots at ‘robotic’ Chris Eubank Jr and his ‘wooden legs’ as the Welshman vows to pull off a shock stoppage at the final press conference before their grudge match… but his rival warns him: ‘I’ve already won the fight’

  • Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Williams face off again at their final press conference
  • Williams believes he will earn a shock stoppage against ‘robotic’ Eubank Jr
  • He also took a swipe at his ‘wooden legs’ in a tense session with the media
  • But Eubank calmly dismissed his rival and said he has ‘already won the fight’

Liam Williams took another swipe at his bitter rival Chris Eubank Jr at their final press conference on Thursday – calling him ‘robotic’ and claiming he has ‘wooden legs’ as he vowed to deliver a shock stoppage against the favourite.

The Welshman is on a collision course with Eubank Jr, with their fierce rivalry set to be settled once and for all in Cardiff on Saturday night – and while he is the underdog, Williams is confident of springing a shock and promised to ‘drop him down a few levels’.

The pair resisted the temptation for a scuffle when facing off after the press conference, with Eubank a particularly calm figure – but it was Williams who was setting the tempo with some jibes at his sworn enemy.

Liam Williams vowed to stun Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday and took aim at his ‘wooden legs’

He called his rival ‘robotic’ and said he had a far superior skillset ahead of their grudge match

Eubank Jr remained calm throughout the press conference and resisted the chance to exchange many verbal taunts

‘I’m so excited to drop this guy down a few levels – maybe he’ll realise his level after this fight,’ he told the watching media. ‘I’ve got a better skillset, I punch harder. He might be tough and takes a good shot, but his legs are robotic and he moves like he’s got wooden legs. My skillset is better all round he’s going that find out on Saturday.

‘You have to have a game plan and I’ve got a very good one from Adam [Booth].

‘I dont think Chris is known for having a good chin and once the going gets tough, you will see that. I’m very excited. I am gonna come through on Saturday.

‘Chris has a rematch clause for this fight. He obviously doubts his ability a little bit. If I was going to fight someone and I thought I was going to blow them out of the water, why would I have a remach clause?

Williams was the aggressor in front of the media as he looked to get under Eubank’s skin

I believe I have the power to stop him. I prefer 12 hard rounds. Mentally and physically I’m in great shape, but I do hope to knock him out as well.’

Eubank Jr appeared relax at the press conference and refused to get into a back and forth shouting match with Williams – instead simply vowing to ‘take him out’ and assuring him he would be ‘standing over him as he gets counted out’.

He said he had ‘already won the fight’ in his mind and would show why he is superior on the night, insisting Williams ‘doesn’t have the chin to withstand the punishment that’s coming his way’.

‘We’re on our way to world titles to cleaning up the middleweight division,’ he said. ‘Liam is the next man in front of me and I’m going to take him out. He’s talking about rematch clauses – business is business. It’s about what happens on the night – that’s me standing over him and looking down as he gets counted out.

Eubank said he would hand out ‘punishment’ to Williams before taking on a world title shot

‘Liam said hes got the power to knock me out, but we’re going to find out who has the better chin, the better speed, tactics and footwork. He says I’m a robot and have wooden legs? We’ll find out.

‘We’ll find out who’s the one that’s lying to the fans. I don’t try to deceive anyone im a straight shooter. That will be proven in a few days.

‘I dont think this fight will last. He doesn’t have the chin to withstand the punishment that’s coming his way. I know what I can do – what I’ve done to guys that are two or three times as tough as him. In my mind, I’ve laready won the fight, but we have to do the business.’

He said his game plan was to take Williams out ‘as quickly as possible’ at the Motorpoint Arena

Eubank faces the daunting prospect of making his entrance in front of a hostile Cardiff crowd likely to be behind home favourite Williams, but the 32-year-old insists his rival will have a better chance if they don’t boo him – as it spurs him on.

‘I’ve done this way too many times I’ve seen it all, been through it all. Do I mind booing? No. Will it affect me? No. I’d prefer cheering fans but sometimes I’ve had to be the bad guy. It’s okay, I’m comfortable. It makes me more spiteful, so Liam needs to tell his fans to be nice – that’s the best chance he’s got!

‘We’ve trained to go the distance, but the objective is to take him out as quickly as possible. The pressure has been on me from day one, its no different now. I have to look good, I can’t have a flat performance, that’s not how the game works. You have to build the hype. It’s gonna be an all out performance, it’s all on the line.
