Who was Sebastian Eubank and what was late son of Chris Eubank’s boxing record
Sebastian Eubank has tragically passed away at the age of 29 after drowning on a beach in Dubai.
Like his father and brother, Eubank was also a professional boxer and was known as The Alka Lion.
In harrowing circumstances, just weeks before his 30th birthday, Seb leaves behind a month-old child after becoming a father for the first time.
His wife Salma had given birth to a baby son named Raheem.
Chris Eubank Sr has been left heartbroken by the news of his son and has released a statement.
The former world champion said: "Never did I ever imagine I would write these words or experience the feeling I now have at the loss of my son.
"My family and I are devastated to hear of the death of Sebastian just days before what would have been his 30th birthday.
“He leaves his wife Salma, his son Raheem born just a month ago, his mother Karron Meadows, brothers Nathanael, Chris, Jr, Joseph, one sister Emily and countless relatives and friends.
“Sebastian grew up in Hove in England but in the last few years made his life in Dubai where he had a wide circle of friends and was a leader in the adoption of a healthy lifestyle and of alternative therapies."
Prior to his death, Eubank had been working as a personal trainer in Dubai but had fought twice in his pro career.
On both occasions, he won on points with his last bout coming in March 2019 when he beat Remigijus Ziausys.
His only other professional fight came against Kamil Kulczyk at the Manchester Arena, claiming victory over the Polish boxer on points back in February 2018.
He also made it onto the undercard for Chris Eubank Jr's showdown with James De Gale in 2019 – only to be denied his moment when his fight was cancelled due to the event overrunning.
Sebastian was born in Brighton in 1991 to his father Chris and ex-wife Karron, who filed for divorce from the UK boxer in 2005, and is one of four children from the couple.
His brother, Chris Jr, also paid tribute to his late sibling, taking to Twitter to say: "Rest easy little brother.
"I love you & you will be missed always."
On Saturday morning, he would add: “My brother Sebastian Eubank was a special man… a righteous man… who always put others before himself,” wrote Eubank.
“A man of many talents, boxing, MMA, poetry, music, coaching, cooking the list goes on but the most important thing to him was helping others less fortunate than himself.
“I haven’t cried since I was 12 years old… yesterday I cried the whole day. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to watch your back like a big brother’s supposed to. Can’t believe you’re really gone man but you’ll always be in my heart, mind & spirit.
“Now your legacy will live on through your beautiful new born son & I will treat him like my own. Watch over us until we meet again young lion.
“And to everyone out there reading this right now DON’T take ANY of your loved ones for granted.
“See them, speak to them, check up on them as much as you possibly can because you just never know if that one time will be the last time. Love you bro.”
In a statement, Sebastian's grieving mother Karron has also wrote: "Our whole family is grieving at the huge loss of our son and brother, Sebastian.
"Please respect our grief and privacy while we try to comprehend our loss."
Undefeated former world super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe said: “Really Saddened to hear the news of the passing of Seb Eubank. Thoughts and Prayers to Chris and family.”
British heavyweight Derek Chisora added: "RIP Seb Eubank. My thoughts and prayers are with the Eubank family and all the people who knew him at this time. Terribly sad news."
