Tyson Fury’s promoter opens door to staging blockbuster Uysk fight in the UK

Tyson Fury's blockbuster title fight with Oleksandr Usyk could take place at Wembley Stadium next year.

The heavyweight pair are expected to meet in the first quarter of 2023, in the first undisputed heavyweight title fight since 1999. There has been much speculation that the bout would take place in Saudi Arabia but that has not been confirmed.

And Top Rank boss Bob Arum admits there is a chance it could break the Wembley attendance record set by Fury in his fight against Dillian Whyte in April, despite receiving huge offers from other nations. "We are balancing a couple of significant offers from the Middle East and also there's the possibility of doing the fight in the UK at Wembley with a massive 95,000 crowd in attendance," Arum told Sky Sports.

"Fighters have a relatively short life and money is important. So if the money which has been proposed to us is real that has to be taken into consideration. To go back to Wembley and do a fight before 95,000 people for me really stirs up the blood. It would be crazy. It would just be wonderful. It shouldn't be too long before a final decision is made. We'll have it all sorted out. I hope maybe by the end of the year."

Usyk won the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles in September 2021, defeating Anthony Joshua via unanimous decision. He retained the belts with another classy performance against AJ this past August in Saudi Arabia.

After Fury kept hold of his WBC Heavyweight title against Derek Chisora easier this month, there is a clear path for the pair to fight for the sport’s biggest honours. Arum has insisted the undisputed clash will definitely take place before May, but Usyk's manager Alex Krassyuk recently declared that he wants it to be staged by March 4 at the very latest.

"Both of them want the fight and so there'll be very little, if any, [messing] around," Arum added. "We'll be able to make that happen. I'm very, very confident. As I said the fighters have both agreed to fight each other next without any interim fights.

“Now the question is what's the date and what's the site. That fight is definitely going to happen and it will happen in the first four months of next year.” Ahead of the proposed titanic matchup, Usyk has sought advice from his compatriots and boxing icons – the Klitschko brothers.

Wladimir famously lost to Fury in 2015 while both he and Vitali have been world champions, and undefeated star Usyk is ready to soak up their knowledge. He told Parimatch: "I have been talking to both of them, of course.

"Wladimir supports me with advice about the sport and the techniques and Vitali supports me with advice about life and the sport, of course. I listen to it carefully and I decide what to use. Me and my team determine the strategy.”
