Mahmoud Charr isn't afraid of a potential bout with Tyson Fury – especially given he's already come through the toughest fight of his life.

After negotiations for a blockbuster bout with Anthony Joshua fell through, Fury has teased a fight with the veteran Germany heavyweight with the two going back and for via social media. Derek Chisora is also in the frame for a trilogy fight with 'They Gypsy King' on December 3 in Cardiff.

Many fans have slammed the prospect of Charr v Fury, given the 37-year-old's lack of star pedigree. But there shouldn't be any doubting the sheer doggedness of the Lebanon-born giant, who was left fighting for his life after being shot four times back in 2015.

Charr was the victim of a drive-by shooting in a kebab shop in Essen, with the offender having previously trolled him on social media. 'Diamond Boy' had responded by offering to meet the man in person, only to be gunned down and forced to undergo emergency surgery.

Miraculously, Charr came through despite being shot four times in the abdomen. His shooter, Youssef Hassan, later turned himself in and was sentenced to five years in prison.

Incredibly, the former WBC International champion returned to action that same year, but needed a double hip replacement in 2017. And he's likened his own journey to Fury's battle with drugs and depression: "Fury, the Gypsy King, and me, the Arab King, have one thing in common: we both never give up," he told Sun Sport.

Would Mahmoud Charr stand a chance against Tyson Fury? Let us know in the comments section.

"Fury had severe depression, wanted to take his own life. My life was almost taken. I survived a shot in the stomach. I decided to have two hip operations in one evening. After that, I became a world champion. Fury and I are ambassadors for never giving up, believing in yourself and fighting for your dreams. A person without a dream has no life."

Charr spent time in prison as a teenager, but claims it was combat sports that helped bring structure and discipline into his life: "Finally, it was martial arts that taught me discipline and made me a better person," he said. "Yes, I have experienced a lot. The abdominal shot I mentioned, the bilateral hip surgery. I am probably the only professional athlete who is still active with two artificial hip joints and plays so far above."

Charr's biggest career fight yet was his 2012 loss to Vitali Klitschko, with the Ukrainian stopping him in the fourth round. He was also KO'd by Russian star Alexander Povetkin two years later.
