Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte on hold as WBC delay mandatory decision
Tyson Fury's fight against domestic rival Dillian Whyte has been put on hold as WBC have delayed their mandatory decision.
Whyte was expected to be called as Fury's mandatory challenger during a meeting at the WBC's convention in Mexico.
Fury made the first defence of his WBC title by stopping Deontay Wilder in their trilogy fight last month.
'The Gypsy King' was given one month to negotiate an undisputed title fight with fellow champion Oleksandr Usyk, but the Ukrainian will instead pursue a rematch with Anthony Joshua.
Whyte has been waiting for a shot at the undisputed WBC title since outpointing Robert Helenius in 2017 to win the silver belt.
He lost the interim title to Alexander Povetkin last August but avenged the loss to reclaim the belt in March of this year.
Whyte admitted last month he isn't convinced that he will fight Fury despite his status in the division.
“I am not that convinced this will happen, you don’t know really what is going to happen with Fury," he said.
"He says he is a fighting man and I believe he is a fighting man so I hope that he takes the fight and it is mandated by the WBC.
“The fight makes sense and I think this time he will fight, but I don’t know why these guys are even in the running, it should just be me and him.
"I have earned the fight and continuously worked hard, fighting more top ten contenders than most other champions.
Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn has called for the domestic showdown to take place on UK soil.
Fury currently has one fight left on his current deal with promoter Top Rank.

Hearn expects purse bids to be called for the fight as he doesn't have a contract with Whyte.
And he doesn't think Fury will care who promotes the fight.
"I don't think Tyson Fury is going to care who promotes the fight," Hearn said.
"That is why I believe a purse bid is probably the most likely scenario here, I don't think Fury is going to care if Bob Arum promotes it.
"He will just be thinking whoever puts up the most money, and if I am fighter in this scenario I would just be looking to see who puts the most money up for the fight.
"But I have no problem with Dillian fighting on another promoter's show at all, and we will be with him promoting him and behind him but he wants to do it on a Matchroom show."
