Bob Arum has revealed that Top Rank are not prepared to pay settlements to Deontay Wilder and has instead claimed Tyson Fury will fulfil his obligation to fight him for the third time. Following yesterday’s arbitrator’s ruling, Fury was told he must rematch the Bronze Bomber by September 15 before he can consider fighting Anthony Joshua.

However, Daniel Weinstein has agreed to sanction an extension permitting Fury’s reps pay off Wilder with a substantial step-aside fee.

Now his promoter Arum, who has been sceptical about the fight with AJ for several weeks, has claimed they will crack on with the Wilder rematch.

“We’re not paying Wilder to step aside,” Arum told ESPN yesterday.

“It’s better to get rid of him and go about our business. We can make the Fury-Joshua fight for November or December.”

Arum also confirmed that he reserved the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for Fury vs Wilder 3 on July 24.

Fury has yet to comment in light of yesterday’s news but he recently made fun of his American rival, claiming he took his soul when stopping him in Las Vegas 15 months ago.

“I always have said I fancy Deontay Wilder to knock Anthony Joshua out early, in one or two rounds,” Fury said.

“It depends if I give Deontay Wilder his mojo back, I’ve got it in my pocket.

“If I decide to ever give Deontay his mojo back and his soul, he might be able to box again.

“But until then, I’ve got his a***, his soul, his mojo and his balls all in my pocket. I own them.”

Meanwhile, Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter Alexander Krassyuk told Express Sport that he was due to speak with Eddie Hearn today about the prospect of a fight with AJ, with the Fury fight now as risk of collapse.

He has since posted a screenshot of the phone call on his Instagram story, confirming talks are underway.

“The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes this morning was several texts on my phone from different people around the world stating the same fact: Fury versus AJ is off. It is off,” Krassyuk told Express Sport.

“It looks like we have a fight to make. We have agreed to speak in one hour when things will become clearer.

“Usyk is mandatory for WBO and the only obstacle that made them sanction the interim was the huge unification between Fury and Joshua.

“And if the fight is off then there is no other obstacles and Joshua has to deal with his mandatory.”
